This trailer is listed on craigslist, close to me. He is asking $250 OBO. Talked to him and he says its road worthy but he doesn't have the title. Im going to go check it out today.

From the pics does it look like a pile of scrap or a decent project?

Torsion axle or does it use the tires for a suspension?
I like the tub and see potential.
Good departal angle on the rear.

How hard is it to title home made in Texas?

havent talk to a bearucratic official yet, but ive been told that filing for lost title isnt too hard.

All good projects are scrap metal.:coffeedrink: A good power wash will do wonders for its looks. I would drag it home especially if its cheap or free.

Don't know the rules in Texas but in CO it's very easy to get a trailer titled. Have a bill of sale for "trailer parts" and then fill out some forms for a "home built" trailer.

My utility trailer was a $100 wife-says-get-it-out-of-my-yard deal. Rotten floorboards and no electrical, but the frame was solid and the tires and wheels were good, so I bought a set of magnetic lights and dragged it home. I would guess my total investment is maybe $400 and I've used it multiple times to haul furniture, motorcycles, and junk.

As for this one, it looks pretty rusty but I guess it depends on what kind of condition the frame, axle and suspension are in. I'd probably talk him down to a hundred bucks and my guess is he'd be happy to have it. ;)

It appears to be the same model as the one below with leaf springs and a heck of a solid frame and heavy duty axle (the solidity of the box could be another story though)

To answer your question, what is your end goal for a trailer? Just a cargo box or more?

It looks like it could be an interesting project... push the lid sections to the front and rear, build a middle section, side hinge the lid and build a read door, there is possibility there... how much experience do you have in fabrication and such? How much to you want to learn it? :)

I'd try to talk him down... the tires are probably trash, bearings need regreasing, body needs a LOT of work to make it into what you want...

Have fun!

i decided to scrap the idea. i wanted to try to build it into a camping type rig but i think at this point i would be better off just finding a used pop up in decent shape.
