Good Snow Chains?

In NorCal this winter we have been getting a lot of snow, more like it was when I grew up here. I haven’t seen this much low snow in awhile. Any hoot with the sierra cement that we get here and the 30% slop hill I live on I have a couple hills on my driveway that are over 20% and if I get about 6” or more of this snow and can’t break though to the rock, for safety we need to chain up because there is a drop off on one side of the road that would not be good if I slid off and it makes Tree very nevus.

Now I have two sets of chains for 35” tires, one in the cruiser and one in the truck. I am running the same size tire on both trucks so I could chain up all fours in need be, but just chaining the front seams to work just fine. They are both the same type, they are a H and or diamond pattern, easy on chain that we form Les Swab tire center and there (Made in China). They work ok but I don’t like the fact that they are made in China and they look kind of weak or cheep.

My question is this, can I get chains like this but higher quality in this size? I have checked with pewag but they don’t have this type of chain in my size and I have tried to look at the RUD site but it is not working for me. I can’t look up any product in English.

Thanks, Sam

Alex,

These are what I am talking about. They look just like the ones I have, and work good for me.

Do you know where these chains are made?

I believe the company is German, but these days the actual product could be made anywhere... including China. They do list a Chinese office on their webpage...

You could always give Bill Burke a call and ask him.

I do wish I had a set of 4... then I could get my Jeep really stuck somwhere! :D

I have the same chains that NorCalSam has...they are mfg by leclade(sp) but made in china on the bag. They look dead on the RUD's.....
I found mine on craigslist for both the XJ 's 31's and the Dodge's 315's....I have seen the heavy duty chains on there also, but am always a day late and dollar short on checking them out.
I would hope that if the chains could not hold up to constint use that Les Schwab wouldn't sell them.......

I will be going with Rud myself. Just don't get enough snow in the foothills to justify them. However, the thought of sliding off the road at 12,000 keeps chains high on my "must buy" list.

Good point, I would just rather have chains made in the USA etc. Or Any place but China.

As far as needing them its all about snow conditions, I have driven the cruiser in deep snow effertlessly pushing snow over the hood going up hill or climing too, but the stuff that we get most of the time here at 3,000' is a PITA. We got 12" of snow yesterday and the Cruiser does much better then the Dodge but both bearly make it up with the fronts chained up. It is a mess right now.

Thanks for the help.

RUD Grip 4x4 chains.

I've been using the RUD Grip 4x4 chains for two years now and am more than pleased with them. They hold up to the abuse quite well. I've spun them off the tires on a few occasions when the chain caught a rock or log with no damage. Just stopped and re-installed them. I'd highly recommend them.
Cheers,
P

Are they really 16mm link diameter? That is 5/8"-- stout!

I bought two sets of these. One for me 4Runner and one for my trailer. They are made well and easy to put on. I'm heading out for a 7day camp tomorrow and therre is a winter storm warning for the area I'm heading into.:wings: Hopefully I'll get a chance to use them a bit.

I know that you used them because I watched a movie trailer and read about it in the overland journal.

I would buy a set today if I could figure out how you got the chain to clear with those tires!!
