Good vehicle shipping transport companies.

I bought a van out of state and even though the owner has agreed he would store the van for a month so I can get a cheaper plane ticket.. I'm still wondering if a Vehicle Shipping and transport company would be a better choice as I don't need to see the vehicle. Its paid and mine.

Anyone recommend a good outfit? Or should I just spend 300 on a ticket and enjoy the adventure?

I found this site but it looks sponsored and I'm not sure I trust the reviews.

It's really hit and miss - whatever company you give the business to, they are most likely to put the job out to bid to an independent.

For peace of mind on the occasions that I have had vehicles shipped, I have always lowered my insurance deductible to $0 for the few days it is in transit.

I've also flown in and driven vehicles back - it's a great way to get to know the new truck. Just comes down to cost and time.

Yup. Guess all they can do is make sure the carrier has insurance and how long they have been hauling.. friend of a friend has my job posted on this central data base deal for $700 and we will see. No broker fee.:) If this was a more valuable car I don't think I would do this.

I personally like to fly out and get the vehicle if possible. You get the 'bonding' experence of driving it home.
Whatever you do, don't click on one of those get "8 shipping quote websites", you will get 10,000 emails for the rest of your life!
UShip ( www.uship.com ) is a very good option. You can get go for an auction style get your shipping, or post a fix price that you would like to pay.
You will have better luck there of connecting with an owner/operator (driver) then going through a broker. When the driver's tells you a date, there is a very good chance of that being true. Brokers are very good at promising.

My "transport job" has been posted on this holy central data base board already. Actually twice which might be the problem. First broker said and posted 1150. second inside friend recommended and posted 700.

Either way, its a crap shoot because all you can check is if the carrier who bid has insurance.. I think. First broker told me they do a background check on there drivers..:) bull

Defiantly stay away from uship.com. I used this site to find a mover from Ca to FL, and ended up with a company that did not have insurance. I thought that uship would check for licesning and insurance but they do not. Basically anyone can become a mover or transporter on that site. Do yourself a big favor and steer clear of uship.com.

I have shipped cars 4 times for work related moves, and twice they were damaged. Both movers did pay for the damage however, but it was a bit of a pain. Whomever you use will bid it out to independents, so make sure whomever your dealing with has insurance, as the carrier may not.

Driving it would be more of a sure thing, however you need to consider what your time is worth as well.

Check this out..

The seller set this up for me.. But from what my inside guy (who has the job posted now for $850) tells me.. the brokers hook you then say its only a quote and charge you more. I dunno..

And when you check out auto ship transport on the review site.. they have only been in business for a year with very few reviews.

PRICE: $940
Dear Michael,
Thank you for choosing Auto Ship Transport. Our goal is your complete satisfaction.
The price to ship your 1995 Ford E350 on Open carrier for 1325 miles is $940.
Please check our reviews on: www.transportreviews.com/company/auto-ship-transport.asp
NO DEPOSIT REQUIRED UPON PLACING YOUR ORDER, VERY IMPORTANT NOTICE:
Make sure there isn't any upfront deposit. If your car doesn't ship; you may have trouble getting a refund. Auto Ship Transport never charges an upfront deposit, and will only charge the deposit when we have located a driver to transport your vehicle.
DO NOT SIGN A CONTRACT AND GIVE AWAY YOUR CREDIT CARD INFO AT THE SAME TIME, UNTIL YOU RECEIVE THE DRIVER'S (NOT BROKER) PHONE NUMBER AND SPEAK TO HIM PERSONALLY TO ASSURE YOUR SPOT ON A CARRIER: If a broker charged your credit card with a signed contract, you have no proof of getting your charge back, if your car is not shipped. Unfortunately in this industry, low-balling brokers with negative ratings, use this strategy to collect deposits and fail in shipping vehicles and that is A SCAM.
Make sure you can cancel your order. If they are unable to find you a driver then it may be difficult to cancel and obtain a refund and go with another company. With Auto Ship Transport, you can cancel your order any time with no fee until we have assigned you a driver.
You should only sign the contract after speaking to the driver personally, TO APPROVE THE DRIVER, DEPOSIT AND TRANSACTION.
So to post your vehicle on the national board and obtain a driver without any problems, you shall choose one of the following options:
1- You may leave your credit card information WITHOUT signing the contract, until after you have spoken with your actual driver and not your broker.
2- You may sign the contract WITHOUT leaving your credit card information, until after you have spoken with your actual driver and not your broker.
THIS IS THE ONLY WAY THAT THE CUSTOMER IS IN CONTROL OF SHIPMENT AND NOT THE BROKER
Please keep in mind, that each quote is priced competitively with the type of vehicle, mileage, current gas price, traffic, weather conditions, routing and availability all being taken into consideration.
AUTO SHIP TRANSPORT IS FULLY LICENSED, BONDED AND INSURED WITH 100% RATING ON THE NATIONAL BOARD "CENTRAL DISPATCH".
THE QUOTE IS ALL INCLUSIVE. THERE ARE NO HIDDEN COSTS SUCH AS TOLLS, TAXES OR ANY OTHER MISCELLANEOUS FEES. WE WILL PROVIDE YOU WITH THE BEST DOOR TO DOOR CARRIER SERVICE.

PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT EACH QUOTE IS PRICED ACCURATELY BY COMPARING ALL RATES ON THE CENTRAL DISPATCH BOARD USED BY ALL CARRIERS.

Auto Ship Transport is available to answer all your questions Monday through Friday 9am-9pm EST, Saturday 12-4pm EST. Our staff will take all the necessary steps to help you move your vehicle and we will look forward to hearing from you.
