Gordigear Rooftop Tent

I hate to rehas this heated thread, but I stumbled across the compant as well and it seems like the price is right for a trailer tent. 1500, THE CAMPING LAB ONE IS Listed at 3000. Just curious as to any other out there? or has anyone had any dealings with this company?

thanks guys

I've talked with them via email, and they are most willing to answer any questions you may have. After customs and shipping, you are looking closer to $25 to $2800. So as far as that goes, Camping Lab and Eazy Awn are still competetive in price.

If your willing to deal with customs, (customs is alot more helpful than say the DMV) then I'd give them a shot. I'm still considering their product, but I have not ruled out Camping Lab either. Both very worth while tents as far as I can tell from communication with both companies.

Glad I searched before posting a new thread about Gordigear! :ylsmoke:

I came across them on ebay.au and checked out their website. The most interesting feature for me compared to the offerings from CL is the extension tent skirt that would provide me with room for two cots and my dog while my 3 boys slept up top.

ext_skirt.jpg

This tent skirt setup keeps the ladder inside and has an integrated removable floor.

+ extension roof tent US$ 950
+ extension tent skirt US$ 330
+ automatic awning US$ 315
+ awning mosquito net walls US$ 170
+ freight US$ 0
= total US$ 1765

Package pricing of $1765 shipped to Boston puts this well within the realm of possibilities for me. If anyone else makes the same style tent skirt extension offered with this type of package, I'd be interested to know so I can compare.

For comparison purposes:

Mombasa's equivalent is a Overland:
Tent $895
Changing room with extension is $225
Shipping ~$120
Total $1240

The Gordigear version:
Tent $950
Changing room with extension is $330
Shipping free
Total $1280

So the Mombasa is a better deal.

To the best of my knowledge CampingLab doesn't offer this model

Does the Mombasa Overland's changing room have a detachable floor? The value of the Gordigear extension to me is the fully enclosed space including panels that open from both inside and out and a high zipped floor to prevent water intrusion. I can fit a cot on each side of the ladder and a dog bed behind it.

I haven't seen any other "changing room extensions" with these features. If they are out there and more local please let me know.

Thanks,
Bill :ylsmoke:

Because the Overland models don't work on trailers I haven't seen one in person yet. I will check to see if the changing room has a floor tomorrow. Based on the fact that it's twice the cost of their normal open floor changing room on a standard model, I'm guessing it has a floor.

Took a look at the Gordigear web site. Some nice equipment there at decent prices. If I didn't already have the Starcraft...

Because the Overland models don't work on trailers.....[/QUOTE

I sent Compactcamping a PM on this might as well reply here in case someone else knows what he meant by the above quote. Don't most (all?) RTTs clamp or bolt to a roof rack so you'd make a couple of cross rails on the trailer or trailer lid to perform the same function?

Sorry for the confusion. It's the T-Roof style RTT like a Mombasa Overland, ARB, Autohome Overzone that aren't ideal for trailers. The mounting is not the problem. Most RTT physically mount the same way.

The issue is access height. Because of the enclosed area around the door, on trailers you have to bend way down to get under in order to get in.

Just received word back, Yes the Mombasa Overland Changing Room does have a full floor and all four sides are enclosed. Expect to have some pictures in the next few days.

Here is a picture of the Mombasa Overland. I don't have any changing room pictures yet. As noted before, the changing room does have a full floor, although it's sewn in, not detachable.

The Gordigear & Mombasa seem to have followed in the style/construction/feature path of the ARB Simpson II that came out a few years back. It served users well but it will be interesting to see if they find the same issues that led to the introduction of the ARB's new Simpson III and Simpson IIIb tents. Again I had this 'style' of tent and was very please with it, but lessons were learned through a couple years of use and feedback and upgrades and changes were built from there. If you guys end up with these tents please give some feedback on what you like/dislike, primarily the guy lines on the awning, etc.

cruiseroutfit, I assume you are referring to the need for guy lines to tension the over-entry area?

Has released, the Overland has been available since last year.
