Got bored and sketchup'd a 4runner pop-up

getout

Adventurer
So, I got bored the other day and thought this would be neat to throw together in sketchup. I've been thinking about a 4 seater, pass-through cab, popup and thought a 1st gen 4runner would make an interesting base. No 1st gen 4runners on sketchup though so I had to turn a truck into a sudo-4runner and then played around a bit. Definitely not to scale. I don't think a 4runner has this much room behind the rear bench.

Let me know what you think. No plans to do anything like this soon...well, I don't think so at least.

That is fricking sweet... and I´ve got an extra 4Runner top just waiting for an idea like this... only problem is that I´m 2000 miles from it. :-/

One thing I´d change... move the pillows to the other side where the ceiling is higher so that your feet are under the low part. Yep, that´s the only suggestion I have for changing it, pillow placement. Great design!

BTW, I think the truck you started with is a bit longer than a 4R.

Ha, we know how this goes - you have the sketch, you’re halfway there! I think there would be a lot of interest if you did it. Nice concept.

His truck build here, and camper build here.

Thanks for that.. nice to have a link just to the camper. Man, I had a Vanagon Westy, and nothing beats the layout/useability of those interiors. Think I'll try to go the FWC route for our Taco....

Wow. Thanks for the input and the suggestions. I particularly like the pillow placement suggestion.

Like I said, just throwing around ideas. I think we're on our way to a 4 door tacoma instead of an older 4runner but with a combination of boredom and sketchup, you never know what you're going to get.

Great idea. I find the idea of an integrated four-seater camper with pop-top really appealing. As one new to the world of overlanding and still researching vehicle options, I came across the Azalai; which is similar to your design. A great concept that unfortunately is not available in NA. Your concept is also a bit more compact than the LR Defender 130. Again, cool idea.

Great find. I really like the 4 doors. That's the big drawback I see to the 4runner. I think we're leaning pretty hard towards a 4 door tacoma with some camper on the back. We'll see if we can pull something off.
