GPS for Hunting

Okay, all you GPS guru's...

I co-worker of mine asked for recomendations for a GPS to give her husband for hunting trips (anniversary present). So a hand held unit, fairly basic but good durability, and rugged.

Any suggestions I can pass along?

Works very well, and has ability to load topos etc. Big plus for me, it floats! I spend alot of time in and on the water. I would think that a hunter could use a waterproof unit.

I use a gpsmap60 (monochrome screen) and load topos from my laptop as needed.The colour screen units as listed by previous posters have more memory.The most important thing is to buy the local maps and load them in.

I love my Garmin Map76 CSx. It's the same technically as the Map 60 CSx just in different format and it floats if dropped in the water. Either one would be great. :wings:

I'll throw in a non-Garmin suggestion for some variety - DeLorme PN-40. I really like mine. They're going for $235 on Amazon right now.

Garmin Rino. It has a GPS and a radio. very handy when hunting with a group.

The lowrance topo software for the Ifinder series has all the topo stuff but also has the hunting unit boundries for a lot of states. The Ifinder hunt series also has hunting type of icons as well.

My dad and I use Garmin Rhino's too.

With the Rhinos you can see the location as well as talk to the other members of your group.
