Still beautiful absolutely, plus older. I haven't seen such dampness since my hike in BC. Gorgeous.

You might want to catch a little more history on the way

While your passing through Alabama you might want to take in Hank William's place, little more closer to the earth than Graceland. Enjoy the trip and watch for some great food along the way!

The Appalachians are now what the Rockies or Sierras will be like in a couple hundred millennium or so. (So enjoy them while you can!)

Wish I had found this earlier. You could have made a run down Hwy 78 to Tupelo, MS after Memphis and seen Elvis' birthplace, the small frame house is quite a ways to the other end of the spectrum from Graceland. From there it would have been a nice run up the northern part of the Natchez Trace Parkway to Nashville. Sounds like you had a great time though.
