Grand Wagoneer ?

Not "Grand Waggys" but my two Wagoneer's. The yellow one used to belong to Brian Chuchua, hence the transit yellow factory paint.

The tan one is my DD, and I drive from Wrightwood, CA to Hollywerd, CA few times a week with virtually no problems. We also use it for camping too.

There are a few of us here (seems like more are joining) that use our wag's for camping and wheeling. I'm one of them.

While I love mine, and love working on it (read: hate working on it too), it IS and OLD VEHICLE and has its limitations.A modern drive train swap would get these things super reliable, but if you know your way around a motor, there is no reason you cant make one pretty dern reliable. And by reliable I mean 'old car reliable' which means you may still have little side of the road fixed and small bumps in the road.

I'd trust a Wagoneer more than a JKU for reliability any day. Sorry but Chrysler has proved this time and time again.

the GW has more than enough room for 3 kids, I say rock that sucker. Spend 7k on the vehicle, 3k on preventative maintenance and call it a day. It'll be 100x more reliable than some JK packed to the eye brows with shoddy electrical put together by billybob in Tennessee for 12$/hr.

I'll never understand why people say old cars aren't reliable. I have a Ford Ranger that I've put 1500$ into maybe in the whole life of the truck, while I see friends with new Toyotas spending that in a year on various electronics and such going wrong. If you do proper maintenance and can tell when things are wearing out, you should never have to deal with being on the side of the road. I know I've never been stuck anywhere because of a break down of any sort.

Had an 87 waggy. Loved it but hated the reliability. Truck was hell to work on because it didn't know if was a jeep chevy or ford. Such a mishmash of parts on the late models. Go to an early one for simplicity if you go this route but be ready to open your wallet.

Hey Drew! ummm errr I mean Doc!

I totally trust my Waggy. Sure it is old, but I bet I don't have any more maintenance than any other off road vehicle?
You just have to do the maintenance, and stay ahead of things.

I drive from 6100 FT above sea level to sea level, then back up all the time. OH! and we are going to be taking another trip to CO soon too. :safari-rig:
