grease fitting plug/blank?

I am trying to find the plugs that you can put in place of a grease fitting. You put them in place of the grease fitting so that the fitting doesn't get broken off. They basically sit flush. You have to put the regular fitting back in to grease the joint. Anyway, I don't know what they are officially called or where to find them??

Hey Al, we used those plugs on our mill equipment that were prone to having the grease fittings broke off all the time. If you have a Fastenal store around, that would be a good place to look. Or you could try an industrial bearing warehouse like Erie Bearings. I'm not sure if you have either of those in your part of the state, although Fastenal is a national chain. If you can't find any, I should have some tucked away in my grease fitting box I could send you, just let me know what size and thread you need.

Thanks, I think there is a grainger in Altoona. I'll check them out tommorrow. I'm rebuilding a CV driveshaft and because of angles it sees, I mashed off the fitting in the cross of the ujoint. I can't find locally any u joints with the fittings in the caps, so I'd like to try a plug in the cross if I can find them.

Try and find the threaded ones, the tap in ones area pain to remove and don't hold as well. Grainger's a cool store, I always leave with more than I intended to buy from that place.

Neapco is the brand of u-joint you are looking for that have fittings in the caps. Autozone or one of their affilitates carrie this brand. If Autozone does not have a cross reference for your u-joint, go to Neapco web site they have pretty good cross reference pdf there.

Call Jack http://www.ctmracing.com/ he uses a "flush" mount nipple on his joints. It will let you still lube with a Needle tip if you have a straight shot at it but it is just a little taller then a plug.

I have never seen a CV joint that could be flexed to the point of contacting the grease nipples when so equipped. Are you sure you installed the joint body the right way around?

This is a tom woods shaft that was machined for greater angle. It came with fittings in the caps, I rebuilt it with a fitting in the cross joint and promptly mashed it. If there's a chance I put it in wrong, then I propably did
