Green green green Colorado!

Ran a quick trip into the foothills on Saturday afternoon to pre-scout for an upcoming Overland Training course. We have had rain every day on the front range for weeks, and everything is so green. You can see from the pics that another thunderstorm is brewing.

Hi Graham. What trails did you cover? Do you still want to check out some routes in the Fort Collins area.

It's been truly impressive to see how green everything has been this year and the weather report for the next 10 days is rain almost every day.

Does anyone know what our rainfall is compared to the annual average?

Precip for May 2009 was below normal. Total for May 2009 was 1.30", our rolling average is 2.32". Since Jan 1 2009 we've had 7.66" of precip and in June we've had (up to 6/13/09) 2.14". The rolling average for YTD would be 7.22", so we're only about 0.5" above normal for this point in the year. What is weird is that June is usually drier. Normal for this point in June is about 0.73", so our early summer really is wetter than typical.

Troy,

I went up to recon the route we did last year. Both trails from Caribou were still closed. I know Caribou Creek is probably running high, so that section after it will be very muddy. After that I ran Switzerland and Sugarloaf back to Boulder.

I really do want to head up to Fort Collins next weekend. We should talk logistics. Let me know what you are up for.

You know I would never be disrespectful to the 110, but when I first saw the thread title, I was kinda hoping to see the RRC...

Thanks Graham....you are not exactly helping someone who suffers from CSAD. :( (Colorado Separation Anxiety Disease)

Can't wait to go back. Seriously though, thanks for the pics.

Well, there's a story there. Connie and I actually started the trip in the RRC. Then going up the canyon (first time pulling a steep grade since I had her all back together) the temp started rising. Stopped to cool, carried on, and it happened again. So we bailed out, went back to the house and I took the 110. The RRC is in line to get a radiator swap now . . .:coffee:

It has been a pretty odd year for weather. I know we got hardly any snow at all in Westminster during Jan, Feb and March. It feels like an early, severe monsoon season. The upside is that after a year and a half of working on my house, the lawn finally looks decent.
