First off, if anyone has Greg's contact info, can you send me a note? The number I have on the directions is out of service. Thanks!
Can anyone here who has installed a Greg Davis bumper answer a few questions for me? I'm about to have mine installed today and the instructions are not very clear in a couple of areas. I was going to do this myself but I don't have a welder, don't really want to learn to use it on my bumper, and I need three people to hold it together while we tack it on. So. While getting a new windshield, my local shop is going to weld it together for me. I'm leaving in about 15 minutes so I hope to be able to call Greg if needed or get some of this info sometime during the install.
I already removed the rear bumper and all the hardware, but I'm confused about some of the measuring. He says measure down from the "rear window." I take this as rear window but above the rear quarter panel, or does he mean, rear door window?? He mentions drifting off nuts with a chisel. Are these the ones up on the cross member below the rear door? How the heck do you get in there with a chisel? He also mentions welding this onto the frame at the end. I had planned to get them to fab it and mount it today, then remove it and paint it later, so I could make it out for a rally this weekend and have some rear protection and a recovery point. Right now I'm raw sheet metal. Also, I removed the plastic sill plate that runs between the bumper and the rear door and broke some of the plastic tabs, so I might need to remove it install that, and also would like to be able to remove for paint touch ups. Does this thing really get permanently welded in?
Thanks everyone. I sure wish there were pictures!!
