Hannibal Awning Details

Im looking to build an awning similar to the Hannibal design.
I was wondering if anybody had any detailed pictures of the frame and cover design.
Id also like some feed back from any Hannibal owners of design flaws they would like changed.
Thanks:victory:

The only issue I've seen with them is if the awning fills with water there is the possibility of arm failure due to the weight of the water.

It needs some slope built into it.

I have already added to my drawing, pins at each hinge where its mounted to the Jeep to hold the arms at 90 Deg angles as well as a flexible tent pole across the center to add a pitch for the water concern.

I have a hannibal awning but no pictures of it yet. It's going to rain for a few days, so after it clears up I'll take the pictures and send them to you.

I think the design is pretty top notch. The thing with their products is so much attention to detail is evident that you can see why it costs what it does. If you wanted to replicate it, you would easily be in it as much in your time cost.

I guess my only change would be the thickness of the velcro straps that you wrap around the bars that tighten up the canvas when it is deployed. I might also have boots built into the canvas flap used to cover the awning material when it is stored.. just to keep the ends of the "wall" zippers from flapping around. Not really a problem though, more aesthetic.

You would have to change the clamp that attaches to the Hannibal rack, but you would do that in your design anyways (assuming you aren't using a Hannibal rack?).

The biggest flaw with my setup (rtt, rack, awning) was the low quality fastener hardware shipped with the rack. That is an easy fix though.

About 6 years old and still bulletproof stuff, worth every dime.

I don't remember taking any detail shots, but you might start with this one that shows (a grainy) shot of it stored in the shop-

Hi there, this is my DIY of awning for my Defender90. Hope the photos serve you for your coming project.

this is the complete look of the awning (un-folded), not tighten and the canvas looks not so nice

this one without the side protector

the folded and tied to the load carrier look. chosed white color (inner) so that when folded it won't look too ovious on the road.

the end pole screw into the foldable arms with a butterfly bolts. the support column made from a shower curtain bar with a 3/4 pvc pipe holder fitted. (note that poor quality of garvenizing)

Nice awning.
One of the main reasons im looking for more of the Hannibal design is the lack of poles and ties required.
Id like it to be set up and broke down quickly.

Been digging around for some info on making my own version of the small (D90/110) rear mounting awning for my D2 and stumbled on this old thread.... any one else fabricated their own self supporting awning like this for the rear of their rig ?

Thx,
Andy
