Hanomag

Very interesting, and 'way cool! It must have really been the envy of many back in 'the day'.

Just as a couple of semi-related factoids, Hanomag made many of the half-tracks used by the German army in WWII, both prime movers and armored personnel carriers. And Silver Streak was a travel trailer maker, USian I think. I've seen one of the old trailers at a truck stop in VA with AZ plates that I think was being hauled somewhere for restoration. But I've never seen or even heard of a motorized version. I'd have thought it was a one-off home-built except for the '23 built' note in the verbage.

That's a big load on a relatively small engine. If I'm not mistaken the diesel is the om615 a 2.2l diesel, the same as in a Mercedes 220d sedan.

Hanomag Campers

Yep, big load on a small engine is how the Germans do it - Leichttransporters. Mine gets around 27mpg and can travel at 75mph no problem.
They had OM615 diesels (hey, 55 horses:)) or the older ones (like the silver camper up there with the oval grille) had either the Austin four cylinder engine or a small Hanomag diesel engine as options.

I have an OM616 in mine that I have modified for optimal output. Of course, mine doesn't have the huge camper body on it...

Here are some more:

Somewhere online there is a picture of an articulated city bus that is looooong. It has an OM615 in it too!
