Yeah, I was stoked when a 6' camper popped up on CL and snapped it up. Figured they are rare enough and there are enough outdoor people here with tacomas or similar that the resale shoud be pretty easy if I ever want to sell. Of all the questionable build quality issues common truck campers have (particle board and staple construction, poor electrical work, the list goes on..) the wood frame is pretty low concern. Haven't ever checked out a FWC in person, and they sure look nice on the web, but I've seen aluminum and welds fail on plenty of stuff- I don't believe it to be the holy grail of construction. A custom composite/epoxy shell though... someday.

Those SMEV units are sweet, I would love one of those sink/stove combos, but $$$.
Thanks shanz, we scored on the WA trip, sprinkled on once and some AM fog, but otherwise perfect weather (joked with our Seattle friends about all the rain propaganda to keep people away)[/QUOTE

Great camper and great pics. Hope you get to spend many nights in it. I found this when I was restoring my old Alaskan. I almost bought it but didn't. I really didn't think it was a bad deal at $240.

Nice pics and the camper looks like it fits the truck nicely. I've never heard my converter. You can't beat the Heco lift mechanism. Nice reconfiguration.

Had never seen that style SMEV rayct77, and a deal at the $... have to bookmark that :)
thanks regcabguy. Maybe there was something wrong with my converter? I know it hummed anytime plugged in, and it didn't charge the house battery. All it did as far as i could tell was convert to 12v to run cabin lights and power two 110v outlets which we never used. I thought about posting a ? on here about it, then just pulled it out anyway. Rather add a solar to (quietly) charge the battery any time the sun is out, plugged in or not. Freed up some space too.
I found fairly quickly that the biggest shortfall of this small 6' camper was minimal storage, so my focus has been on freeing up what little space i have (ditching oversize water tank, moving in camper battery to the bed, counter reconfig).

I'd have to go out and look to get the make/model, but my power center doesn't charge the house battery either.

Cletus,

I was in your same boat with the converter. I think found somewhere the converter in this year Skamper does not have a mode for charging when plugged into shore power. It only converts. My quick fix was a Smart Wall charger plugged into the house. One that adjusts the input so you get a good solid charge and then acts as a maintainer. I am also looking at a solar kit to be my main charging source. However, this last trip was all in the trees and I imagine I would have had minimal "sun" power. Storage is a premium in these little guys but you can use a bunch of the cheapo canvas shelves found at the .99 cent store. These work great for budget organization. My wood working skill are not quite there yet to build cool shelves.

Nice to hear some confirmation the the converter wasn't doing anything useful. I just hook the battery up to a charger for a day or so before we leave. I too have minimal woodworking skills, but I still hack around with it. Hoping to build some boxes to mount to the ceiling a la SLO-250's skamper (and others I have seen). Just a small one, as I'm sure the ceiling is not very heavy duty built.

Nice Mods

Very nice mods, I'll be stopping back to review them when I get to that stage in my scamper rebuild.
