Has anyone done this?

I have an interesting situation here. I have a Yamaha Rhino which I use with me on my out of town/state jobs. Currently I have a 10 foot tilt trailer that hauls it. I have a RTT mounted on my Power Wagon. I am trying to figure out how to mount the RTT and some storage on this trailer, or, just start from the ground up. I need to be able to leave the trailer in camp and then take my rhino to the job site. I am thinking something like a drive off modular thingy that had "Stilts" that the tent could be on, with storage boxes underneath it, ect. Needless to say I'm going through a lot of graph paper. Any ideas?

OR... can a 2" hitch be mounted on the back of say.. a Chaser, and then tow the Rhino behind that? May sway a bit but that would be sweet if it worked!

I've seen this done with fifth wheels and a boat, but it required a class A commercial license for double trailer.

Very few states allow more than 1 trailer in tow, with the exception of Class A vehicles.

Idaho is one, I believe. Check local laws.

FYI- Two hitch-trailers behind a tow vehicle is usually considered "triples" in some states. Something to do wtih the 5th wheel and hitches and how the combination is setup. I am not 100% certain on the technical details of the setup.

Why not have Martyn design a trailer with enough room to place the Chaser up front and a flat bed to hold the Rhino.

It's certainly doable. I've seen locally a trailer made to carry a few dirt bikes which has upside down "U" bars positioned to carry a roof top tent above the bikes. Perfect for the bush basher going away for a few days. I did try to find it on google but no luck. The Rhino would be taller than the bikes so the tubes would be bigger with more gusseting.

If the trailer is 10ft, could you put the RTT at the front end with the nose of the rhino just tucking under? Does the roll cage on the rhino come off? This could make the RTT lower on the trailer.

Good luck with it.

Fireman78, you could do one of three things. Mount a frame to the trailer that your Rhino drives under, build a removable ramp on the Rhino drives over or build a mount on the trailer that your Rhino drive in between and when you get to camp roll the Rhino off and move the RRT to the trailer mount.

Pros and cons to each.
Cons: The "drive under" might mean that (depending on the design) its always mounted and not needed all the time or extra weight with the removable system, "removable ramp" extra equipment to store at camp and "in between" means you might need an extra hand to move the RRT.
Pros: The "drive under" would be very quick to set up camp, "removable ramp" would be low profile while in camp and "in between" would be low profile while in tow.

Could you possibly ditch the dodge, rhino and trailer for something that could handle both the on and off-road?

Say a modified toyota or Jeep?

Nope.. I use the Rhino for herbicide spraying, shuttling gear, species inventory, gps mapping, land assesments, tree cutting, access, blah blah blah... I need her for everything I do for my side buisness. (I am also tryng to convince myself and my wife that I NEED a Horizon Trailer too). Also, I need the Dodge for hauling gas/supplies/saws/heribiced/ ect. I've got an OK system now, it' just sucks to have to pack up camp evey morning and head out to a job site, I'd like to be able to leave the base camp for a week when I need too, and be mobile with just the Rhino and Dodge.

At 113.6 x 54.4 x 73 in and 1200lbs, it *might* be possible to get a smaller travel trailer and have enough room for a hitch-mounted carrier?

Best to look for a trailer that has a bit extra cargo space designed for ATVs.
