For your viewing pleasure plus the gap between the wheels is incredibly small since the axle was originally intended for a different plan. Wheel spacer suggestions; anyone?

I have a very similar unit on my truck except I ordered it without the side doors. It is very well sealed. Before I installed a window, I used to pull all the tie down access covers off before sleeping inside.

I'm impressed, you started with a great product. Commercial "service bodies" are built to take a beating and keep on ticking. Way better than anything on the RV market. That should last a lifetime. Any mods you do, try and match that commercial robustness.

Wheel spacers are an option, but price out a new axle built to measure. My 3500# idler axle cost $207CDN, about $145USD. Why bother with spacers if a proper axle is so inexpensive. Any commercial spring and axle truck shop can build exactly what you want. If you do the axle, build it to fit the same rims/tires on your truck. And then you only need to carry 1 spare.

Getting anything around here seems to be taking forever. Getting tires put on my truck is taking two weeks. I have some 17” Jeep wheels but the offset on them is too much so I pulled the little 15’s off my utility trailer and they fit perfectly.

The trailer survived 5,000 miles round trip from Southern Indiana to Yellowstone very well. Wife really likes the rtt and all of our gear in one place. Way better than on the ground in a tent
.

BTW...having a narrow footprint could be a benefit on trails. As long as you don't get it top heavy.

When I got this one, I just used the existing mounting holes and drilled thru the bed of the trailer.

I haven’t done anything amazing with the slides yet because I really didn’t have time before our Yellowstone trip. I bolted down a grill I got at an auction and we used the cheap black totes with yellow lids for our gear.
