Hello all!
I just signed up but I've been reading the forum for a few weeks now. I've seen a lot of members on here that I recognize from another forum about JK's that I read often.
I'm located in Prince George, BC, Canada at the moment and am fairly new to Overlanding. I've been a Jeep owner since 07' but traded in my Sahara for a Rubicon last year after becoming more of an enthusiast. Not that the Sahara wasn't a great vehicle. It just didn't meet my needs quite like my Rubi. I've wanted a Jeep since I can remember and have always been amazed by the sight of a lifted 4x4 loaded with equipment!
So for the last year I've been steadily working on prepping my rig for adventure. The biggest of yet to be a trip across Canada and the US my wife and I (and our 3 Basset Hounds) are planning for next June.
We've been living on the West Coast for the past 4 years and have not been able to get back East to see our family. Air fare for the 2 of us round trip is over $2K and that's not including air fare or kennel for our beloved hounds. So we did some crude calculations and decided that it would cost less in fuel to drive home and back in our JK with our hounds than to fly. Our plan is to drive across Canada, see the sights, stay a couple of weeks in the Maritimes, return through the US and "hopefully" branch off and hit Moab on our way home. The Moab trip may or may not be in the cards depending on our budget and how much time I can take off work. But we'll see.
Now this trip is not so much based on budget as it is us just wanting an adventure. We've always discussed making this trek but it just never felt like it could become a reality. But now we have good reason to do it. The one major flaw to our financial justification is that the short list of items I've decided to add to our rig (found further below) will cost us on the upside of another $4K (the joys of buying aftermarket in Canada:wings
. Although they probably would have been added regardless.
So as part of my intro here is a list of the modifications we've added over the last year to our previously stock Rubi::chef:
-2.5" TF Coil lift with shock extensions (OME LT shocks to be added shortly). -Set of 33" GY Duratrac tires mounted on Pro Comp 17" black steel wheels.
-EVO C gussets and control arm skids.
-JKS front and rear weld on track bar bracket braces.
-JKS front adjustable track bar with QA-1 steering stabilizer.
-Poison Spyder Evap skid.
-Gobi stealth rack with ladder and quick disconnects.
-AEV rear corner armor.
-AEV snorkel with pre filter.
-Extended the breather tubes.
-and a whole host of other minor inner and outer modifications.
On the short list to get done before our trip is the following:
-OME LT shocks with extended brake lines, longer/adjustable front sway bar links and 1/2" coil spacers front/rear.
-Adjustable front upper/lower control arms.
-Rock Krawler HD tie rod.
-Roof top tent.
-Gobi cargo rack insert.
-AFE stock replacement air filter.
-Bushwacker hood deflector and tail gate guard (come as a pair).
-Modify stock Rubi rock sliders (weld on raised tube slider/step).
-Rhino line the door hinges (they are taking a beating!).
-A little extra camping gear and a SPOT GPS device.
-(maybe-$?) Rear LOD bumper w/ tire carrier w/ cargo rack for extra storage.
-...and $ for fuel...:Wow1:
