I thought I would remember and I can't, I've looked and looked to no avail.........Somewhere here( not necessary in the Mit. trucks) is a disscusion, on building of course, and in the thread one of the Aussies has posted some pic's on building race trailers etc. With in the post is the material they use to sheet the trailers, thats what I'm lookin for. So if someone remembers the post showing the alum. trailers I'm sure I'll find the material used. Thanks.

3M "VHB" tape - Very High Bond strength; like double sided sticky tape, only with a serious attitude! Can find it as just the adhesive, or with a thin foam layer between the adhesives. The ultimate shear strength probably suffers a bit with the foam, but it will suffer slight misalignment's better.

We found out the other day that there are a couple of different versions of the VHB tape and the one we were using was OK but there was a better one to use. They are sending us some samples. When they turn up I'll post up some part numbers and some technical details.

Hi John, I hadn't been around while Dakar was on.

I got really sucked in following the race, staying up late each night following the live updates. Made me want to give the Australian Safari or Dakar a go. Don't have any spare FG's lying around we can build into a race truck?;)

No not any more. Not a whole one anyway. Plenty of diffs, engines and boxes lying around the tour company workshops. Heard about an "04 FG637 the other day with zero k"s but I'm sure he'll want good dollars for it.

Do you remember the VW syncro camper that Trakka Conversions ran in the Australian Safari back in the early '90s along with a VW twin cab syncro? I'll dig up the magazine and maybe write up a thread for the VW van section. Haven't started a thread for ages. I hope to do another FG mechanic Interview thread in a couple of months after I come back from FNQ.

I could just see one of our pop tops with some race numbers on the side.

Mickldo, Yes please do that. I'm sure that it would help than just myself.

Having been a crew member for a variety of desert race trucks and buggies, and having ridden in or driven more that a few of them, I want my seat to be centered between the axles, not sitting on top of one. But that's just me........

Thom, What about all those "in cab" camera shots of the big Dakar trucks showing the three crew members bouncing around in harmony. Doesn't that sound like fun? Not.

John.
