Help me pick the right G-Wagen. Base vehicle budget: $40K-$80K

Regarding the "they aren't rock crawlers" comment, I am of a different opinion. Like a Wrangler, you can build them to your hearts content. Stock they do fine, especially if you remove the sway bar, but if you want to get crazy then just like a Wrangler you can gear them down, do custom suspension with mega travel, or go off the deep end like I did and throw portal axles on them. Not that I'm saying you should, but I don't see any inherent limitation in the platform, there is enough but not amazing aftermarket support, solid running gear, and a ladder frame you can weld on so besides the million aftermarket options you can get with a Wrangler, if you want to wheel a G, wheel a G and don't let anyone tell you it can't be done. Not saying anyone here is saying that, but when I decided to go this route I did encounter a lot of negativity from some other G-Wagen owners but in the end it was all words and the actual build went quite easily. It's a friendly community, but some do tend to lean pretty hard in the "leave it just like mine" direction. One of the things I like about them myself is that they are such a wide open platform. The same basic rig can be seen as a military vehicle, a mall crawler, a six wheeler, an ambulance, a pickup, whatever you can dream up really.

Hey, are you still here? I am considering a 2011 G55 vs 2014 G63... I see you have a 2" receiver, which would have had to be installed aftermarket. Is it the MB parts or something else? Easy more or less - meaning factory mount points still intact but just not used for our market ?

I won't be removing sway bars but it's cool to see what can be done. Thx

I'm also in Colorado. I love my W460. It's an '85 280GE gas. 2" ish lift. It has the ambulance doors in back which are handy. It's a little underpowered when loaded up with gear and pulling motos, but I don't mind.
