Help with Xmas Present for the overlander that has everything

X2 on not buying things. Unless you know the exact brand, model and make of the item they actually want, and can afford it, you'd only be wasting money.

Subscriptions are always good too, and not just for Overland Journal. Books are always good too.

Also keep in mind that it doesn't have to be a single large gift. A bunch of smaller ones are good too.

If nothing else, gift cards are excellent for the hard to buy for types.

really??

I hate those things.

Not me. I've worn out, broken, lost and had stolen about a million of them over the years.

And when you've got to open a bottle of wine and you have no corkscrew, you'll wish you had one.

The rules said there was a $50 limit.

I know. I was just injecting a bit of humor as this is an actual product that epitomizes the absurdity of "stuff". I actually agree with Goodtime's response. I think most people have enough stuff. I know I do. Buy them an expensive cigar or small consumable luxury that they would never buy for themselves. Nice briar pipes can be had in that price range, or a Fisher space pen along with a couple of Rite In The Rain waterproof paper note pads.

I'm also someone that has everything and if I want something usually buy it once I've done my due diligence on whether it is a good purchase, with that in mind I've been adding things to a wish list on Amazon that meet my criteria that I've promised not to buy and have promised not to look at the wish list so my wife can shop from that.

I'm also a sucker for clothes, essentials like socks & underwear that are good for hiking/camping are always welcome (not generic stuff that your grandma used to buy you as a kid) and a guy can never have too many t-shirts especially overland related like the XOverland full tank empty wallet gauge shirt. Booze also works but that is something else I'm fairly picky about so just make sure it is something they like.

One thing my wife did for my birthday this year was to start a collection of these wall hangings of the different national parks, using the old school postcards and adding 3D elements around it on a cork board like a campfire made out of twigs, that is something I really appreciated and means a lot more to me than anything she could buy from my wish list.

Find out what kind of consumables are used for the MTB. A tire, tubes, grips, brake pads, cleaner, lube, CO2 cans, etc.

I also agree with making sure it is the exact part number. That's what makes the Amazon wish list so great. You can add the exact item you want from any website and put notes down for specifics.

I am very specific about my wish lists for Xmas and the like and my mother in law is terrible about getting me stuff that is similar to what I have on the list but quite different at the same time, or getting me something I don't want at all. Then I get yelled at by the wife for not ever using the gift.

In all candor, I'd settle for one of those cold-fusion cigar lighters, or a nice pre-owned Phantom convertible, the one with the stainless steel hood.

Silky saws are awesome for setting up camp.

This one is only $43.00

Or, for a little more, you may find the Zippo 4-in-1 tool useful as well. Expedition Portal's own Chazz Layne recently did a review here.

Amazon has it for $68.00, but you may find it cheaper elsewhere.

Overland Journal has a decal combo pack for $21.00 -and who doesn't like decals?

I recently received a pair of the Ironclad Ranchworx gloves from an Overland Journal holiday subscription promo. The bad news is that the promo is over, but the good news is the gloves are reasonably priced. They are the most comfortable pair of gloves I have ever owned, and best of all, they are machine washable. Chazz Layne reviewed these as well, here.

They are listed on Amazon for $39.50.

If you could buy time so they could go adventure that would be the ultimate gift. Given all the gear folks have tends to be really thought through and hand picked by that person for very specific reasons. Sorta like trying to buy a Xmas gift for the wife who is ultra picky you eventually give up and just take her to the store tell her to find what she wants and then pay the nice lady at the counter. LOL

Fuel gift card, can you buy gift cards with the US forestry dept that can be used for paying back country passes and fire permits? That would be a cool gift.
