Although I like my Tundra for long road trips, my wife's model S does just fine.
Tesla did a lot of things right with aero and efficiency. I don't doubt that it's fine for long trips now that the charging infrastructure is good. But the issue with electric "do everything" vehicles is still the weight, size, and expense of the battery pack, particularly if you are towing or hauling.

Tiny electric vehicles with shorter range (urban specific) would make a lot more sense... but we'd need to repurpose the infrastructure somewhat to make them safe.

Hilarious! Commuter vehicles were the first attempts to electrify passenger cars. At the time skeptics were like "oh, but they can't be used for long trips." Now that EVs can be used all around, all of a sudden there is appreciation for commuter EVs ?

Comedy aside, most people don't buy specialized vehicles that can't be used for everything (within reason) vehicles are normally used for.
