Hilux in the USA?

This is the second time I have seen one just north of Orlando FL in the last month. First one was first weekend in September, with an expedition type camper in the back of the truck. Yesterday I saw another one up close at the YMCA, crew cab diesel powered. Had Government license plates so the image is blocked out for privacy reasons. This was the only picture I got before the driver drove away.

Anybody know why they are here, or if civilians can legally own one here? I was under the impression they were not available.

I'm curious as well. I saw one at OEE with Texas plates that was diesel.

if it had Government plates, I'm pretty sure the military imports them for training -learn on the things that will be around wherever you are

they also pop up from time to time in texas because they can sell them and register them in mexico so sometimes people drive them across the border.

Diésel Hilux 4x4 will be for sale here in México in just 10 days, auto and manual trans, both will have 2.8 turbo diésel and rear diff lock, Im planning to buy one next month:smiley_drive:

Could be diplomatic plates? The hilux isn't unique enough in my mind that they need to train with it. I'm sure that happens, but I don't think outside of a base.

On IH8MUD I saw a tractor trailer loaded up with them for government use. I saw some UN equipped 200series Land Cruisers on a flat bed heading north on I-95 a little while ago too.

Overland Experts in Ct and Va uses them to train military and civilian drivers. They had a couple at the Vt Overland Rally. They said they have to get them out of the country every 3 years.
