I got my samples. It looks like previously written in this thread, that vinyl coated polyester looks like the winner. I still dont know when I'll be able to to tackle this project.

Oops sorry for the double
Last summer was the last time I used it because I went with a flippac but it is about the same as it was when new 8 years ago. It probably helps that I used the 303 protectant once or twice on it. If you have a friend with an industrial sewing machine that can handle the fabric you are golden for sewing on zippers or Velcro. I think I saw the same type of fabric less expensive a couple years ago when I went to a fabric store with my wife. I think the store was called Mill End, I don’t know if it is a national chain but you might want to check local or on Ebay or the like if you want to save some $ on the fabric cost. I could be wrong but I think it was less than $10/yard. It is surprising how busy some of the basic fabric stores are, like a Harbor Freight equivalent for (mostly) women.
Good luck and have fun with your project, if you think it out I bet it will turn out great. I didn’t take much time or think it out well but it still turned out OK, if I ever did it again I think I would do better. For sure I would try upside down U windows and use zippers like a tent instead of the squared off windows with velcro.

Sweet deal!
~$50 (plus shipping), some glue, zippers or velcro and screen material, a rainy day to make it and a sunny day to install and you would be set. It would problably take less time and less $ than just the travel and expenses to go to Woodland or Sacramento. I didn't bother with the clear plastic windows because I didn't want them but you could do that if you really wanted to.
Post pictures if you do it, inspiration for others who don't have a couple grand laying around to have it done for them.

Sorry we could not have been a little better on the phone this week.
We are a small company, and build a very specialized product.
Terry or service manager was gone for the last week at the Overland Expo.
He is our "go to" guy for parts and service and strives to help the customers in any way he can.
We have a new helper in the shop as Terry's assistant, but he is "green".
Unfortunatly we can't hire a new guy and have him to be able to know all of the details on 30 years of campers in only a few weeks.
Sorry we were not able to help.

ATC being a 2 or 3 man operation with a low over head they will be able to beat us in some areas.
No argument there.
And I also understand you have not had a good experience with us.
But when it comes to the build quality there is a very big difference between the campers.
They build good campers over there in Sac, but VERY different that what we are building here at FWC.
I would highly recommend looking at both campers BEFORE buying one, look at both factories, figure out your needs & wants are, and then choose what suits your needs best.

Hey homemade,
My buddy's dad has a 2001 granby that ozes goo from the soft sides, I can't help think this is a result of a glue that they used in the manufacturing process. Did you get any goo oozing out of your seems from using that glue made for the vinyl coated polyester?

That must not be from the vinyl glue like they sell at Seattle Fabrics which I used which and I think is the same as Vyna Bond glue that I used on an inflatable boat patch. I think I read somewhere that back then FWC tried using the velcro with the adhesive backing (big mistake). If the black goo is coming from around where the velcro is that might be the problem. The vinyl glue gives a clean and very durable bond.

It was . . . glad it's over. Well sort of - I learned a few things about building cabinets in campers that flex and twist a lot, and we've come across a few things that would be done differently if I did it again, so someday I'll probably do it again.

Good to hear, I went to my buddys house yesterday to get some ideas on how to make the windows. He just had fwc replace his soft sides a few months ago. They are getting pretty tricky with the window sewing details. Does anyone have any ideas on the specific window material. I was thinking to use clear 30 mil clear vinyl here is the link.

I have to build some cabinets eventually, what design considerations should I be thinking of? When I gutted my camper, it looks as if fwc campers just slammed together some sheet goods, I think particle board held together with L brackets. But I always appreciate input from someone with first hand experience.
