Hood Blackouts

Maybe something for the Xterras, they have a hood similar to the Discovery's. Also a hood decal reminiscent of the classic Toyota Pickups of the 80s with the stripe that fades on the drivers side. Like this.

But then you would also probably need to supply the side decals as well.

i have a hard time believing an 18 year old is going to deliver on this. where's the prototypes? or at least a picture of the material he's using?

i just have a hard time believing he's going to be making much more than small stickers.

I'm thinking about putting Matt in the "Whatever Happened To" thread. I contacted Matt by e-mail 6 or 7 weeks ago. He was quick to respond and we e-mailed back and forth. About a month ago, my last e-mail went unanswered. I have been trying once a week for some kind of response and he seems to have fallen off the face of the earth.

I believe this thread was started to see if it would be viable to make these. Production was never promised. I've also tried to downplay this thread because I'm not currently an official expo sponsor. Look back at previous posts on this thread.

Dale,

As I told you in two emails, I'm not currently producing anything for the XJ, I appreciate your interest, but at this time I have nothing to offer you.

Lets put a hold on this thread guys, I don't want to continue this until I become a sponsor.

Just for reference.

Perhaps I should wait 10 or 20 years for you to take me seriously?

I'm busy with college, It's important to me, I'm spending more on that a year then I would make from these. That's the facts, I am 18, and college is very important these days. I've pushed back the hood blackouts, I've had local business keeping me busy which is great.

I've also started a program for the family of a friend that just got hit by a drunk driver, they're having financial problems, so I'm creating decals for them for free. They've decided to sell them to his friends and local people for 15$ and the money is going along way to help them, and it's been a huge hit, they have sold almost 200 decals so far. Small stickers, big impact.

Theres also the 10 papers, 2500 words avg. each I've been assigned in the last two weeks that I just finished doing :gunt: But now I have 5 weeks off hopefully I'll be able to get back on track with the blackouts. Discovery is starting first.

How much are you going to charge? Viggs Design and Rovers North already sell these at a pretty good price. Unless you are going to sell them at $40 or less, your walking into a field that already have some good quality products.

i'm in college, too, but try being an architecture major, then come back to me about time issues.

the fact is you said "i'm about to start producing" which means in a few weeks (a month tops) to at least show a picture of a product.

that's great that you're helping a family out, but that's besides the point.

no, i don't think that just because you're 18 incapable, but because you're 18 you're too quick to jump the gun about "i'm making this or that so buy my stuff".

so what happens when you're busy with all of this, then someone orders something from you? are you just going to say, "sorry, i'm too busy with school". what happens if you take their moeny adn that ends up happening?

genius.

Business Major.

This is why I haven't started anything yet, taken any orders, or promised anything remotely relevant to a hood blackout. Even to my own mother if she asked.

Civility, Innovation, Drive all good signs of someone who will be successful in life. I like how you have kept your cool under fire showing a level of maturity we should expect from any 18 yro. I still believe that it is the person and experience, not their age that is relevant. Organize your thoughts and construct a structure to operate under, I think you'll be fine hood blackout production or not. Probing the market as you did here is smart as opposed to jumping right in.

Well, Matt seems to have come through for me. I asked him to cut out my decals from a very difficult font that none of the other decal cutters I spoke to wanted to touch. They came out absolutely perfect. Frankly, I think he should market these because they're so cool.

Sorry for the poor picture quality, it was in my garage and I had to use a flash.

That is an awesome font! I'm glad Matt pulled through on it for you. Now I need to think about what I'm going to use that font for.

Good work Matt, I see why no one wanted to touch those. Rough text is one of the most difficult fonts to reproduce from what I hear.
