Hood Mounted Tire

Off hand I really don't know any other type of vehicle that has the combination of high windscreen and low mounted structurally reinforced bonnet that makes bonnet mounting a practical option. Maybe the early flat fender Jeeps?

Never really thought about it but you may be right; there are no other "normal" vehicles that come to mind that have the spare mounted to the hood. Maybe the old war pattern Kubelwagens (IIRC, brain fade). Fairly certain VW Things didn't.

Jeep flatties do not have any provision for this. The hoods are very simple rolled steel affairs that have no real structure to them beyond the hinge points. That's not to say it couldn't be done, faded brain is telling me that some British SAS motorized guns may have been set up this way but don't quote me on that.

The other issue with the mil spec flatties is that a tire mounted on the hood would interfere with the windshield fold down and possibly with the carbine mount on the back-side (interior) of the windscreen. It would place the whole works at a funny angle and would likely obsctruct forward vision even more given the height of the windscreen.

Golly! Some guys pay a lot of $$$ for a gym membership but Jeep folks seem to shun a little lifting.

Now, with that Ford V8 you've got under that spare tire, you don't have much reason to open the hood ... you might be a little spoiled compared to most Series owners :jump:
