How capable is a 60 or 80?

but I have rarely been on trail in which I thought a jeep was performing any better overall than my 80. And I've been on plenty of trails where my 80 outperformed Wranglers.

On almost all trails I have been on a well outfitted SWB Wrangler will eat a Land Cruiser alive. Let's be honest with this dude. No contest.

Then, when you consider the trails he has listed, the Wrangler has an enormouse advantage due to it's smaller size. Wrangler wins period!

Where the Cruiser wins out?

No breakage
More reliable
More durable
Do not need to upgrade much
*And yes...it can run almost all the trails out there (and handily) though on tight and narrow crazy trails like the Rubicon the Wrangler will embarrass the Cruisers every time. They're different beasts.

on alot of the obstacles on those trails yes. Btu in places like Moab a cruiser will most likely do better do to the longer wheelbase climbing better.

Oh absolutely. No one vehicle is best suited for every situation. Hey, I own two Cruisers and no Jeeps. :ylsmoke:

I will say though that the Wranglers do amazing stuff we can only dream of. (Well, an FJ40 can hang too)

This is an interesting thread. As an 80 owner I can attest to something that hasn't been mentioned enough by the other posts. The 80 is far more comfortable for highway driving than any jeep. Even with a 4" lift and 35" tires and a full expedition kit, it's smooth as silk at 80mph (though I usually drive 65). A/c, power everything, leather , etc and very capable off road is a great combo.

Buy 96 or 97 with lockers. It's worth the search.

Good thread... One thing people didn't mention is 60 series (prob my favorite cruiser I think) is harder and much more expensive to set up well. Also has a larger ***, gearing isn't ideal, and you need to spent money on expensive suspension as well. So they are good but really are pretty 'expeditiony'. If you want a solid built truck that can follow the TJ but do it pretty well while still being affordable and comfortable the 80 is the way to go...

The 60 series prices are currently VERY low. I see them on 'mud for less than 2K all the time. However, I think the better deal would be an 80.

I've only had FJ55s (one stock with 31's and one the I did alot to...SOA,SR, lockers, Turbo6.2, ect.) I wheel with a bunch of jeeps and the wheelbase can cut both ways. I'd rather have the wheelbase. Last weekend I was in the Rubicon and saw some awesome LC's and some jeeps too. The LC's really had a lot of gear. I swear I saw a hot tub in one...not really. If you can drive you can get the 60 or 80 (when properly set up) where you want to go. I have a larger rig now and really miss the IronPigs. It's all a compromise.

I knew someone would eventually be tormented by that statement. Wouldn't have figured it would be you, but then again, you do seem to find a debate just about everywhere you go :D

I know that a well outfitted Jeep can be an exceptionally more capable rig. I just didn't do a good enough job explaining that in my post. I was merely speaking to my personal experiences, not the maximum capabilities of each vehicle.

Why? Truth hurts? I know some are in denial or not up to date on the technology.

Or just haven't driven a 70 series yet....

All cruisers will go where I want them to...comfort is the factor difference to me. My 45 Troopy was great...but uncomfortable compared to my 80, 60, or 70 series rigs.

My 80 has to have been the most capable and most comfortable, as a combined package.

...but that's before the 70 gets a turbo and a/c! :coffeedrink:
