What part of NorCal were you hunting in? I’ve seen evidence of these guys up there but never seen one (live).

He's a German Wirehaired Pointer - of the "liver" coloration, and yes, those look an awful lot like a Pudelpointer.

I brought my Nephew up to the cottage in November because he wants to learn how to hunt and I am the only one in the family that does. On the last day I managed to shoot what I thought was a doe (you need an anterless tag which I had) 
15 minutes after legal hunting and got this spike instead. My nephew was super excited and now he knows what happens after the shot. This was the first deer I took with a scope on my 1941 Carbine. It was 143 metres from my stand. I have the rifle zeroed at 200 metres.

Ha! Just checked back on Page 1 of this thread. I'm not on Photobucket anymore, and all my photos on that first page vanished. Ah well, no big deal. I just edited them, and replaced the photos! Here's a look at my 2016 season, which was pretty amazing. I took four big game animals, all with my 30-06 and handloaded 165 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip bullets:
Started out with Washington black bear in September:
Headed to Wyoming for pronghorn & mule deer in October:
Back home in Washington I had a late-season cow elk tag:
I've been hunting Wyoming every other year or so, sometimes more of a gap than that, for nearly 20 years. In recent years I've taken more time on the way, and have camped and fished. It becomes a bit of an "overlanding" trip on my way to Wyoming. Normally on the way home, I'll just get on the interstate and grind out the miles, but that trip to Wyoming... That has been really great!

took this whitetail off my farm couple of years ago. 18 yard shot with Ruger American Ranch Rifle in .350 Legend I handload a 170 gr. Hornady InterLoc SP using Lil Gun Shotgun Powder
