Hybrid driven axle trailer.

Maintenance, look at all those parts that can break....and less mpg. Seems to me that if the terrain is significantly different that the benefits claimedmay not be there. For example, in the picture, the vehicle is at the top of the hill and the trailer is still climbing. I guess this is a PTO and accelerating for the trailer to pull itself up will speed up the pulling vehicle, would this be good in ice and snow? Would both vehicles be driven at the same rate at all times?

I'm leary of such things, if it worked that well and was efficient, why wouldn'tthere be more of them? Why wouldn't the military be using them? Pictures and vehicle look pretty old, guess it's been around a long time but didn't pass the tests in the real world. :coffeedrink:

Possibility of jack-knifing with the Land Rover design yes but not Volvo's. The Volvo trailer has jack-knifing "stops" to prevent this.

As far as increased gas mileage the PTO is only engaged when chosen and only possible in 4 low.

What Volvo did was take half of the Laplander truck just in front of the trucks main power transfer case and turned it into a trailer. So the gearing ratios are all the same since the axles are the same.

That is an INSANE trailer hitch. COOL. It does control a lot of the issues that a normal ball hitch would have.

I like that they use standard agriculture PTO parts.
