i've never heard of anyone losing a CCW over a traffic citation. but then again, it IS california....

if/when i get pulled over for a traffic violation, i let the officer know that i am carrying, and am licensed to carry. they thank me for the notice, and just say something along the lines of, "that's ok. just be sure it stays there."

getting a ticket while carrying will NOT get your CCW rescinded, If by chance the officer said so or took your card he did so under false pretenses. I would fight it.

hiding a 4ft rifle in texas might be interesting lol. of course I am in east texas right now and can't wait to get the hell out. things out here are a little TO backwards for my taste.

When I got the citation, the officer asked if I was carrying. 3 days after I got the citation I got a registered letter saying to turn in my permit. Withing 30 days I had been to court, had the charges dismissed, and asked my sheriff (who issued the CCW) if I could get the permit back and why they had recinded it. The reply was that it was a privledge and I could reapply for it.

Interesting. Are you on Calguns?

Regardless of what the US constitution says, or the CA legislature, or how one thinks these should be interpreted... as a practical matter, concealed carry permits here in California are issued at the discretion of the local sheriff and/or your chief of police. The rules and norms vary by county. And your sheriff is absolutely correct that it's a privilege not a right, and can be rescinded (or original application or renewal denied) for essentially any reason; the power for your local LE to apply restrictions as they see fit is in the CA regs. Don't have to like it, but it is what it is, and the people on this thread saying "this is BS" or "that's unconstitutional" or whatever, you sound like nincompoops.

Gov Brewer, passed HB 2307!

I can also carry into bars and restaurants! (unless of course there is a sign that specifically prohibits such)

I hate to say this...

Thank you Jan.
I don't know about Arizona, but here in Oregon there are lots of signs that say 'no carry' but the law says its ok....so even if the sign says no it isn't necessarily so. for instance all the schools say no carry but in actuality its legal....the teachers carry cause its legal....just because the sign says so doesn't mean its so. Now the Fed Court house says no and you had better check you 9 mil at the front desk or you just might be staying longer then you had planned.:sombrero: the post office says no but its still up for grabbes here. Who's going to check if your wearing a shoulder hostler....I've carried in the PO for years w/o a problem. I always check my 357 snubbie at the courthouse. Last thing I want is a deputy drawing down on me.:coffeedrink:

I was kinda torn on being able to carry concealed without a permit. I took the class and got my permit several years ago. The class I took was at Glendale Community Collage and I really learned alot. My instructor was a DPS officer. The class not only taught you the laws associated with carrying and using firearms for defense, but we also had some great discussions on tactics, proper form, interacting with officers, ect. I think it is a good idea for people to take a class before carrying.

totally agree...carrying really needs to be done w/ a great deal of knowledge and fore thought. I don't want some guy w/ an out of the box weapon who doesn't notice me walking behind the dude he's about to miss.:coffeedrink:

Agreed, but that topic has been covered and recovered.

So the sheriff told you to re-apply. does that mean another $300 for the testing? While a CCW is a privilege, the fact that it was rescinded without cause is my problem. A drivers lic is a privilege as well but they have to have a real reason to take it away. If you showed aggression toward the issuing officer or something like that, I can understand their desire to remove the CCW (as if that will actually stop someone hell bent on revenge)
