You know you live "out there" when you ride to school in a 4x4 bus! That must have been a fun ride for those kids.

Ex-friend of mine (meth?) rode just such a bus. On Santa Catalina Island of the coast of So. CA. His family lived at the Isthmus and school is in Avalon 14 miles away, half of that is dirt. Weather can get extreme enough out there that sometimes the bus couldn't make it and they got the day off.

I just did a trip driving a much larger bus across the country, cost was 2500 but I had to replace 6 tires on my 1959 Crown Coach School bus(1552.) I know it doesn't qualify as an expedition but if you want to check it out here's the link.

If that doesn't work look up cross country trip. My wife hasn't finished it yet but it was a lot of fun. Hence that trip is how I found this site. I'm determined to do something similar but with more of an expedition twist. Of course the other guys previous quote of 2500 to get it cross country wildly depends on fuel economy. Our Crown gets 9.5 mpg and it doesn't matter what hill you climb or what vehicle you're towing. Now that is cool. In any account I'm pondering purchasing it myself and re-powering it with a cummins 8.3 with allision transmisson.
