This is really getting to be old stuff - Toyota (insert here) vs Land (R) Rover (insert here) vs whatever (insert here) ---- you get the idea...

You want freaking reliable!

Go walk or use whatever extremities will take you over the next meter. Even then, if you never taken the time to be healthy enough, that meter looks like a kilometer. You would be gasping for breath and then what.

Maintain the vehicle and yourself. Gee whiz.

net i say if your happy with your runner and it works for your family keep on being happy, about the only REAL difference with a cruiser is a little more size and a little lighter wallet.

Just ignore it and it will go away.

IMO Toyota quit making real Land Cruisers after the quit building the 80 series. The 100's and 200's are probably great vehicles (I've no experience with them), but I see them as lacking a significant item to qualify for the name. That is my opinion, and no amount of net postings will change it. You're not even welcome to try. :sombrero:

For the reasons listed in other posts I'm reluctantly coming into an electronically injected engine. I've intentionally chosen one where the faults are known and the parts are common in the U.S. I've no intention of crossing the southern border any time soon, so that is not an issue in this case. Were it truly feasible to meet my performance goals and not be a gray zone that CARB/CBAR may or may not enforce in the future, I'd be going diesel.

HA! It's like listening to the same old folks (or types) who post up falicies...like "new technology vehicles (100 series for example) being less reliable than older tech vehicles" and "they'll leave you stranded". Boring. Not factual. Quite the opposite. Like or dislike...the facts are out there about the differences. Not everybody likes the truth and that's OK.

HA! didn't you get banned from 'mud Shottzie? just kidding! Still have those garden shears? Sorry- couldn't resist. Yes the 80 is a dinosaur and the hundy is now getting long in the tooth as well. Different strokes right? All I can say is my 1991 80 just burned out a turn signal bulb and this is my first 'failure'. That said- I maintain the heck out of it and change stuff preventatively. Rather like I look after my boats- don't want to end up swimming! Do that with any quality vehicle and you will likely be rewarded with reliable performance. Been lurking here for years - do my dreaming on Expo and my tech on 'mud.

A man I can relate to!!

I found and activated the "ignore" tab.

Agreed as well. In his own Tolstoy-esque review of his 100 series build up- Shotts himself exclaims in print "Now it feels like my 80!" when he finally achieved some articulation. Ignore.

Anyways back on subject....I have a 03 v8 4Runner that has been great. But I find myself looking more and more at the 100 series Lancruisers as the 4Runner is just a little small for me on the inside.

After years of trying to figure out what vehicle is best I gave up. It doesn't matter. I think the 100 series are far better than any out there but I will never own. I just don't like driving them. I owned one for a short time and it was set up sick. If you enjoy driving your 4runner keep it. I love my 4runner because it is just flat out fun to drive even stock. I had a fj55 that was far superior 2% of the time, but the 4runner is way better 98% and still pretty freakin capable outside of actual rock crawling. I hate heat and love the cold so AC is a must. I don't like autos and I don't like full size vehicles so 80s are ruled out for me. If you think a land cruiser will be better go drive some and see. I think LR are complete junk compared to Toyota but would buy a defender right now if I had the money. That is just what I remind my self of every time I go on mud and get Land Cruiser lust.

No, I don't have a complete build thread, started one then intentionally let it get stale as I was saving my material for an eventual magazine article. Maybe someday I will write it ☺

Though I have a few posts here and several pics, mostly in the tire FAQs :)

I concur with CSG: Interior size being my biggest obstacle with a 4R. Having said that Redline's 4R is uber cool!

Is there a build thread for Redline's uber cool 4R? I looked but didn't see one.
