Do you have any idea what the back space is on the wheels that are on the trailer now?

I know that if Toyota wheels are anything like Jeep wheels, you will almost have to run spacers...even if you convert the hubs because the factory backspace is pretty deep.

It's always possible they set the axle up on that trailer of yours for a deep backspaced wheel too.

Here is the manf. web site: http://aewheel.com/wheels_detail_specs.cfm?id=356

I think this is right: Model 140 17x8 Black 5 bolt on 5" +2 mm offset 4.517" BS, although a different Jeep model may use 5.5".

All of this tire rim offset and backspacing is giving me a headache but I think I came to a good conclusion.

AE 17" 5 bolt rim is 8" wide and has 4.517" BS and +2 mm offset, inflated tire is about 11.5" wide, sidewall to sidewall. The tire's sidewall clears the body of the trail by 3.75".

Toyota 16" 6 bolt rim is 7" wide and has 5" BS and 30 mm offset, My Revo tire is about 10" wide inflated, sidewall to sidewall.

Spidertrax spacer is 1.25" or 32mm

If using the Toyota rim and spacer I'd end up with a -2mm offset, so only a 4mm total shift outward from the current tire's centerline. The narrower tire would clear the trailer body by 4.5" and stay within the edge of the fender too.

Sound right?

Sounds right to me. Most of the difference is in the tire width obviously.

The pic of the adapters you posted above looks very much like the ones I used.

And sure enough, that is my FJC with the trailer on its maiden voyage (to us anyway) . That was on the Mojave Road back in April.

On your rig are those aftermarket rims that are lug-centric or are they Toyota rims that are hub-centric?

The wheels are made for Toyota and sold as a TRD rim that was an option for the Tundra.

Going out on a limb a little here, I think they are lug centric. Just about positive they are functioning as lug centric on the trailer, because I don't think the adapters have a centering ring for the hub. The bottom of the lug wells are tapered and the wheels use conical lug nuts. On the trailer at least I'm pretty sure that's what actually centers the wheel. I'm not really sure if the center bore spec on the wheel of 106mm nominal is close enough to be hub centric on my FJC with 105mm hubs. I don't know what kind of tolerance is typical for the wheel/hub fit on a hub centric wheel.

Gotta run off to a BBQ, so I won't get a chance to pull a wheel and look more closely until tomorrow.

Enjoy the BBQ! Tomorrow is great for any help that you can offer. The rims on my 4Runner are hub-centric and use a shank type of lug nut, shown on the left in this picture

All-Pro makes spacers also and have a 6 bolt hub-centric model for $79 (for two) that are each 1.25" thick.

Some of the other spacers that I seen that convert from 5 to 6 bolt have an overall thickness of 2" and run about $200 a pair. I can buy new hubs and the All-Pro spacers for that much

Crap! If they are 5 on 5 they won't work for me. I need 5 on 4.5

Unless they did something weird I would be surprised if they are 5 on 5 though. Most trailers are 5 on 4.5. Although if he had a newer wrangler than he could have done it to match his jeep.

The part number of the Dexter hub is 00824907 and in their catalog that is a 5 stud at 5" assembly. You can order all sorts of hub patterns from Dexter (except for Toyota hub-centric styles!)

And the answer is ... lug centric. I think the back story is that even though my wheels are sold by Toyota, they are an aftermarket wheel made by another manufacturer, and as I understand it very few aftermarket wheels are hub centric. Anyway, here are some pics:

The wheel adapter as mounted on my Horizon hub.

Adapters are actually 2" thick. I think the this was the minimum overall thickness for a 2 piece adapter, which was required because we were going from 5 lug Jeep hubs to 6 lug Toyota wheels.

Here's what the inside of the wheel looks like, and the lug nuts I use.

Not sure where this leaves you. If your wheels must be mounted as hub centric, then it sounds like you may be best off getting new hubs and spacers with the hub centering ring. If you want to see if you can find adapters with the hub centering ring ring you might give Mario or Martyn a call at Adventure Trailers. I'm pretty sure if it can be made their source for adapters can make them.

Thank you so much for the info and pictures! That helps a lot. If I can find some good prices on new hubs I may go that route since I could run lug-centric Toyota rims like the steelies from Tacomas in a pinch. With adaptors I can go to hub centric rims that match those on the 4Runner.

It is also good to show that 2" thick adaptors on trailer hubs are no problem on the trail.

When the trailer sits outside all night there is moisture build up that collects here and there and gradually drips to the ground. Some of it drips off of the tent and pools on the trailer's lid and sits there until it evaporates. I noticed that some had gotten inside the trailer's tub and found that a bolt was missing from one of the solar panel's slide mount brackets. Rather than just replace the bolt I dismounted the brackets and laid down a bead of black RTV and also a little on each bolt and reassembled everything.

Here is one of the slides on the L-brackets

The solar panel has a matching bracket on each side with a tab that locks it into the slide for storage. Here it is extended. If the sun is not on that side the panel can be unclipped and placed in better sunlight

Next I plan to enhance the nose box with a panel to hold a 100 Amp thermal breaker and a Blue Sea fuse box as well as neaten up the wiring.

I also like how Dave (AdventureDuo) had a 2-way radio on his trailer to act as a base station so I'll see if I can do something similar.
