I may need some help near escondido

Been having a rough go of it this trip to cali.
Posted previously about going to california.
Now im here in the sunny south.
And montee feels ,well she feels bewildered and intimidated by all these fast , high dollar shiny rigs here in the sunny south.
So she had a fit in the intersection and quit on me.
Did the same in a snow storm in reno on friday.
Seems there is a miss , a periodic check engine light for short duration, low rpm, and a stall, not always at once and not really a pattern.
Today she coughed back exhaust into her intake.
After I pushed her to the side, frigged the connectors, she fired and ran dreamy all the way to pauma valley n back.
My first suspicion; loose connections.
Now I'm guessing, but iac, however idle and start up are rock solid
Gonna pull codes tomorrow.
May need local help sourcing parts/expertise.
I'm in escondido at some fancy retirement joint
Thx all.

Thank you.
I'm going out to pull codes right now.what I may find that I need is 3.0 electronics.
We will see.
I found no gen 1 rigs in the scrap yards
Will likely have to buy new unless someone has a stash

Don't have any parts nor do I know anyone. Are you part of the Facebook group? I think I've seen some gen 1 guys on there that live near by that may have extras. Sorry can't help in that regard, but if you need a recovery, tow, or tools I can probably make my way there.

I can't help directly - but I have found parts before on Amazon prime, next day shipping for $4, it's been a lifesaver in several of my projects.

Good luck.

Thx fellas.
I think it's narrowed to the tps. Of which there are three new remaining in the u.s.
I still haven't pulled codes, but I've largely eliminated iac.
Thank you for all your help on this.
The lack of montee riders in this area, means I'll have to go to coyote canyon solo.
I have seen no other monteros of any vintage here in escondido valley cwnter.
I wonder if the smog thing has run them out of here

Glad you're getting it worked out. Monteros are pretty rare in general I think. Although not the biggest, AB is pretty big. Even though you shouldn't. I have done a few solo trips there. It gets quite busy during weekends.

Explain to me what AB is please.
I'm confused about that.
I'm likely going to buy new. I like this rig after all these miles.
You know, I sit for 400 miles driving over ice and snow, get out of hhe rig and still fell fresh.

AB = Anzo Borrego; you wrote of it yourself in another post.

Please, do yourself a favor and create a "signature." We can't all remember what you drive.

Consider the following:
The parts needed to make a mitsubishi run are not rare or hard to get, the same parts and sensors are used across all models. In fact, there's probably 5000 TPS sensors that would work on your truck within a 50 mile radius. They're on every Mitsubishi in two variants from the 90's; 3 pin and 4 pin. Look at yours and see what you have, if it's the 4 pin, any mitsu in any junkyard newer than 1994 will have the sensor, likely for $5. If it's three, same applies but pre-94. If you have an extra $5 spend it on a multimeter to actually test the TPS before going in search of one.

If you dont know how to test it, get on your reading glasses and download the FSM - If you don't have an FSM, it was either overlooked by you or by others in the advice thread about your trip. You should always have or have access to the FSM. Safe travels, wish you luck!

Edit: Check your codes, the symptoms you're listing do not sound normal to a TPS, a TPS will usually fail in whats known as 'dead spots' making a sweep with a multimeter will show a steady change in resistance, if it drops off, that's the dead spot. What you're describing sounds more like it's mass airflow sensor related or coil pack ignitor related. Both are easy to find and both are easy to replace.

Out of curiosity, when is the last time you installed a fresh oxygen sensor?

yep, get off my dead .... and pull codes. im trying to vacation and its raining like oregon and sob sob sob but point taken.

i buy new electronics avoiding used parts when possible but this might be the time...
coil igniter crossed my mind need to recheck that but tested good b4 i left. it needs to be grounded firmly and spiking of said igniter may cause problems.

thx for the input
