On the way back to road nr 1. The highway that goes around Iceland. We stopped at the amazing mountain called Einhyrningen. It means Unicorn. If i had the time I would climb it, there is a walking path to the top somewhere.


Later we came back down in the valley on the opposite side of Thorsmork. Then its just straight back out to the ring road.

Next day we relaxed in Reykjavik before we started the car and headed back into the highlands. The plan was to go to Landmannalaugar. Since it was dark when we left town we did not take any pictures before the next day when we where already in Landmannalaugar. This place is amazing. But this is also probably the most crowded place during the summertime.




Unreal landscape to travel in. Iceland has everything. Its like being on a different planet.

When I rode my mountain bike into Lake Aftlavatn in 2014, I arrived there just in time for 45 mph winds, heavy rain, and sleet. The next morning there were three tents standing, mine one of them. About a dozen more were in ruins. Tough, tough night.

Riding the trails above Landmanalauger offers amazing views of that area with vistas that extend for miles in all directions.

Well back in Landmannalaugar camping. Time for some breakfast and chill. The sun is up and life is good.


Not so many tents here this morning. Since a lot of people here are hikers. Walking the landmannalaugar trails. A lot of them get up really early to start to walk over the mountains to the next campings.




Some facts about Landmannalaugar Camping.
- There are huts with all facilities that you can sleep inside.
- There is a thermal pool
- You can buy some food, mostly cookies, coffee and cans.
- The rescue squad has a hut and people here during the summer time that can assist you.

I can tell you guys one thing for sure, you haven't really seen Iceland before you have been walking in the mountains around Landmannalaugar. There are plenty of trails. From short walks around one hour, to several days.

Right after breakfast I packed my backpack and went for a stroll with my camera.

After this walk. We packed down the camp got in the car, put on some good music and started to drive north. F-26 Sprengisandur is next.

Berglid you never cease to amaze us all with your beautiful pics, awesome adventures, and cool destinations. I watched a movie on tv recently that was flimed in Iceland and I can clearly see the resembelance to the beautiful countryside shown in your photos. We packed up the car and headed back to the road that goes to Hrauneyarfoss. The plan here is to go north trough F-26.




Some of the roads, like the road to Landmannalaugar is very good and well maintained. There are busses going in here from Reykjavik every day in the summer.


We stopped in Hrauneyjarfoss to fill up on fuel and have some food. I did not take any pictures there. But its the last place to fill up before you have crossed the entire way over Iceland to the north. I have a rule for myself to always fill full tank when I can. Not because I need it, since I have over 200 liters fuel in the car. But I hate it if I come to a place where I would like to drive around one or two days more and explore all side roads and don't have enough fuel to do so.


We did not want to drive all the way to the first camping site this day, it was getting late so we decided to see if we could find a hidden place. After a while we saw there was a dead end on some of the side roads, so we turned right and went for a look. The road had not been driven in months, there were almost no tracks and someplaces we had to just look on the gps because the wind had blown all the tracks away. We ended up down with a lake, used for a power plant.

It was so nice to finally be all alone when camping. Iceland is heading into a problem, there are more tourist than the nation can handle at the time. The government is working on how to protect the nature and where they can expand the camping sites and hotels. At the same time you should be really carefull where to camp. Since the nature is fragile on Iceland. If you make new tracks they will not blow away. It will stay for hundred of years. So offroad driving in the summer time is not allowed. Only in the winter time on snow. Generally they want you to stay at the camping sites, and I really agree on that. But sometimes you can find hidden places that does not harm the nature when you camp there.





Lots of wind, but it was really nice to lay down on the soft ground.
