Idea/Question 96 Disco for a manual transmission conversion?

I found a 96 disco locally that has a bad transmission. Cheap.
96 land rover discovery. Body and engine in excellent condition. Interior in fair condition. Needs transmission

What would the logistics be of swapping in a manual tranny into this truck?
Possible? Easy? Smart?

different ECU, good luck finding the pedal boxes and the correct console if you are that particular- the rest isn't much.

and the 5 speed R380 for a Disco...

From what I've read other places, the swap wouldn't be much different into a RRC, correct? I assume the pedal boxes might be a bit a difficulty, but otherwise is it fairly straightforward? Would the Disco ECU work on the RRC?

Just here...
Why not just find one with a manual already in it? Itll be easier and cheaper and in your part of the world, most will probably be rust free. Or, just get a good used 4HP22 and bolt it in and drive. Few hundred bucks and its on the road. Its not worth the money to do a conversion when one in it from the factory can be had for so little. Ill take an auto over a manual all day long for trail duty.

Anyone have any info on this swap?

What exactly do you want to know? It's all very straight forward as far as parts are concerned, shouldn't be any fabrication. Since this was a factory option, and they designed the whole truck to be built either way in the factory, it's just like a Lego set. You probably don't even need the whole pedal box, just the pedal. Look up at your existing pedals and you'll probably see the bracket for the clutch pedal and the full length shaft with an empty spot for the clutch pedal.

You just need an R380 with the right input shaft, the right bellhousing, clutch, flywheel, master/slave cylinders, transmission mount.... that might be something about the D1 that could be harder. I think they may or may not have an actual different trans mount on the frame? On the D2, it's a simple bolt-on afair.

The pros/cons can be debated till the cows come home. Do what's right for you.

Be careful with the main seal. I know someone who did the swap and now has to go change out the main rear seal.

Well yeah. I mean, who the hell wouldn't go ahead and change the rear main while they already have it all apart?

Only a canadian engineer wouldn't have. Why invent the wheel, when you can invent two half wheels and join them together!
