I should have clarified. When I said standard, I was referring to it being the defacto bolt pattern used by Nissan for these vehicles.
You're totally right that it isn't a standard, more widely used bolt pattern and it is a major pain in the ***. What I wouldn't give for a 6 x 5.5!
How well does the X do with it both on and off-road? We would primarily use it as a base camp, but do take some pretty rutted tracks into the bottom of the John Day and miles of rough washboard in SE Oregon. Does the 4.0 liter feel the weight much at all? What did you do about the floppy rear suspension on the X? I'm running Timbrens now, but know that I'll have to go to OME or something if I am going to go down this road.
We too use it more as a base camp. How the x handles it....? Well, Not sure how it would do stock, just fine i'd imagine (given a gearing comparison to what I have). I was running 33's with stock gearing and it was a little sluggish pulling the trailer, but totally doable. Over drive was useless unless going down hill. Now, I'm running 4.10's and the same 33's, and it goes, night and day difference Trailer or not . Even with all my mods while pulling the trailer I still get 12 MGP.
Loaded with food fuel and water, that trailer has got to be close to 3000 lbs, so yes the X feels it, but given the final drive numbers of my set up and the stock set up it does it well, both on and off road.
As for the rear suspension... My stock leafs flattened out long ago. I'm running Custom Alcan Springs 2.5" lift and 500 lbs over stock with adjustable shackles, Timbren bumptops, Fox remote res shocks, and sway bar removed.
