Interest in a 2007 White Rim trip?

I think cruiseroutfit was kinda watching this thread and semi-tentative too. I imagine if we have the sites and we got a couple of folks willing (or actually preferring) to ride rather than drive, we will probably get some interest when the dates get closer.

A lot of folks aren't sure enough of their schedule this far ahead of time.

Also I do hate I can't really offer any room for stuff or people, but we will be packed to the max.

I do have a hitch, if anyone has a trailer, though....hadn't thought of that...

Might check this guy, if you're looking to get one.

http://www.coldwarremarketing.com/

Sometimes he'll have military Jeep and Pinz trailers in stock...sold out at the moment. There are some massive 1.5Tcap deuce trailers there now for 1200 bucks, but they look HEAVY. I think there were some trailers for sale in the classifieds as well, and who knows maybe there's a loaner about.

Well, in regards to my post, I was offering to tug one through the trail if anyone had one and wanted to ride but needed vehicle support.

In a larger sense, whether or not I get a trailer will be largely depend on what I decide about my vehicle. If I decide to swap up to a new JK 4 door, I will probably forgo a trailer, but if I keep the TJ, a trailer will become a must.

As of the time of this trip, though, I am 99% sure I will still be in the TJ.

The dates work fine for me. We are taking about a week and a half off total for the entire trip, so now we have the final dates for the WRT then we just have to shift around and finalize the rest of our schedule. :luxhello:

It sounds like there will be quite a few riders. But for anyone checking in on this thread, it sounds that if you have a vehicle, and are wanting to be vehicle based, and are willing to offer rider support, that we still have space for vehicles, correct?

We may want to occasionally update the inital post as we secure and finalize participants and other such plans.

Anyway, sounds like it is shaping up to be an awesome trip. My only regret is that I can't offer more in the way of vehicular support.

Also, as soon as we are absolutely 100% on these dates, I may start a thread for a San Juan Mtns trip that would be immediately before or immediately after these dates (San Juan weather permitting) for anyone interested.

I am cool with whatever on the food. We will have all our cooking gear, as we are camping other spots as well, but we only have a single burner and a small gas Coleman RoadTrip® Party Grill ...small, but surprisingly effective.

One thing I had not thought of, is that if anyone who is biking can offer at least semi secure storage in their vehicle at the VC lot, I guess we could stow some of the stuff we would not need on this branch (ie our cooking gear, if we cook as a team) and stow some bags.

I am sure that even if I did that, we would still need at least one other vehicle capable and willing to hold a lot of stuff.

I kinda feel like a slouch for just riding (err...driving) along. I wish I had more room to offer for support.

I know my wife would probably be happy to help with cooking duties, and I am all about helping set up, clean up, and tear down.

One thing is for sure...at 3 nights and 15 people...there will be a LOT of food needing to be packed!

Assuming that if we ate as a group, someone would kind of take the lead on supplies, then the other participants would fork in some $$$?

10-4, I'm keeping an eye on things. I don't want to commit to a place yet, but if I can make it work I would love to go. In the case of storage needed, I can bring my Tacoma, which I will have plenty of extra cargo space for the bikers, etc. I'll hopefully know more soon

Sweet. Hope you can make it.

I'll volunteer to make the apple/chicken/bourbon/chipotle quesadillas one of those nights :D. We tried 'em last week, talk about tasty goodness.

My truck (Tundra) has a LOT of room and about 3/4T useable payload (incl people), tho I try to keep it no more than 1/2T (the working rating). I can also fit probably four, five, maybe six (pushing it) bikes in the back, or just two with all the trail gear, locked to the rack. It'll easily carry a dozen jerrycans plus assorted gear. I'm willing to throw it in the mix as a backup vehicle, even if the bed's caged by then it'll still have room as the cage plan includes 30g H2O and fuel, plus softgoods and food/cookware storage. Dunno about carrying bikes yet, but it's in the plan.

As far as my (our) own planned gear that would need space in a truck, it'll be a medium sized duffle (or two small drybags) and a tent bag, plus bulk water and food. We'll be riding with camelbacks and food/tools/spares/first aid in them, so we won't need to access bulk cargo except at beginning and end of day, or in an emergency that we aren't capable of handling (serious injury). I suspect we'll be ahead of the trucks on descents, nearby on flats, and I at least will be sandbagging the climbs. I was planning on being relatively close to help spot the trucks in the rough, and I will be playing in them a bit on the bike :D.

I'll also be carrying a multiband HT, for emergencies and if anyone in a truck has 2m or 70cm.

If a Honda Element can do WRT then I'm gonna stop sweating the technical stuff.

How many tubes you figure one bicycle will go through in the trip? I thought I'd bring four and take one in the pack. It's rare when I lose a tube but it happens.

:D :D :D

Found a couple more people yesterday who are interested in riding with...they're a couple of the guys that work at the Breck Nordic Center, great people. One of them has been riding around Moab before, the other is definately interested. It's kind of a ways out for them to plan I think, but as the date closes in they may be more or less certain. FWIW, theyre definately very interested.

Good deal! There are a bunch of people who want to ride this (I have one definite and a couple more maybes). I'm honestly a little worried about finding drivers.
Excellent! I was thinking, once the snow melts a bit down on the plains, we ought to all get together for a meet & greet ride...say at White Ranch or something. I know this trip is pretty far in advance right now, but we'll be headed to Utah and the CO highlands for a lot of riding before the trip, in case you or anyone else wanted to come with.

I don't mind swapping out driving with someone, as long as they're comfortable with my vehicle & I'm comfortable with their driving, and I get to ride too :p.

It appears that I am now in a position where I may be able to offer some space for supplies and stuff for the riders.

However much can be fit in the short bed of a DC Taco is available. I am still hoping to fit most of our stuff in the cab.

We have dates set on the permit. There is a second thread about this showing who's committed and the open spots. Are you thinking about coming along, Chris?

Thanks Dave. It sounds like a fantastic trip, but at this point I can't consider it. I was just doing some clean up of the forum threads so wanted to move anything that was no longer in the works out of this section. I'll leave this one here until after the trip.

You're going to have a great time on this one!
