Internal 2014 LR4 information

It makes you wonder why Land Rover stuffed the new SCV6 petrol engine, 8-sp tranny and revised single speed transfer case in the current, aging and bloated platform if they were planning to introduce its all-new replacement so soon? Why even bother for one very short model year, let the LR4 die in MY2014 with the NAV8, transmission and transfer case it's always had, and come out with the new, lighter V6 powered replacement platform as a 2015MY a few months later, kinda like they did with the old and new Sport this year.

It's also the same thing Harley did with the transition from 5 to 6 speed transmissions on their big twins. In 06 only the Dynas got the 6 speed and then in 07 the touring and softail models got the 6 speed once the kinks were worked out.

Hi everyone, new to the forum and have been following for awhile and thought I would finally join! I'm looking into ordering a 2014 LR4, but in reading some of the info in this post and the possibility of a new redesigned "Discovery" coming out in summer 2014 I am a bit hesitant. Has anyone seen or been able to confirm when the new update will come out and how it will look. I did ask a local dealer and they pretty much told me that they did not know of any major changes coming for MY2015?
Thanks!

US dealers never, ever know anything for sure, often even after a new model has already been leaked all over the place or officially announced and until it is featured on LRUSA's web site. My dealer didn't know anything about packages and options available on my 2013 LR4 when I placed my order late last year, I had to literally instruct them what to order for me over the phone, and all I was doing was reading Land Rover's official press release from a couple of weeks earlier.

LOL. The dealers out here barely knew about the 2013 packages in late 2013. The HD package was a mystery to most of these lowlanders here on the Puget Sound. The folks at LR Boise and LR Las Vegas knew what was going on, though, probably because most of their trucks are ordered with HD.

Buyers' intelligence services like Adam Check's are a good place to go if you're trying to track down a specific truck.

transientmechanic: I was wondering if you had any new information regarding the when and what of the MY2015 'Discovery'.
I still hear that 2014 will be a short model year, with the MY2015 being introduced mid year (this year).
I would think that here in Feb, there might be spy shots of the new vehicle or info on the new specs.
Anything you could share would be of high interest, I think.
Thx

I do wonder if we will EVER get a better discovery model:
-efficient tdi
-500-800 lb lighter aluminum build
-smaller brake rotors allowing factory 17" OR enough room for easy fitting of 18" wheel with 33.5" tire such as possible with the current Land Cruiser 200
-and for the $60,000 USD these will cost next time around, decent front seats!

Wish I could update you guys with more info... I jumped ship out of the dealer network at the beginning of 2014 and no longer have the inside line.

However, through the grapevine I understand that the Discovery Sport should be on sale by the end of this year, and that 2015 will absolutely be the last (and very short) model year for the LR4. There will supposedly be three models in the Discovery family... the D Sport is a given, and expect another model to compete with the high line 7 seat SUVs (Mercedes GL) priced starting in the $70's. Unknown what the third model would be.

All quiet on the Defender front.

In other news, the Range Rover 5.0L V8 Supercharged LWB plus Autobiography Black Package with Valloire White Paint is your first Range Rover with an MSRP over $200k ($200,995)

There will only be 30 of these vehicles available for the 2015 model year.

Sure, just get the LR4 (base) plus HD package.

You will never find one on a dealer lot though, and from what I have heard 2015 model allocation is pretty much all spoken for (so you may not even be able to order one).

I still don't get why Land Rover felt compelled to include side steps as standard issue on all new LR4s. I am sure they are useful to some, but as an accessory, not as stock equipment on all trims. To anyone taking his/her LR4 off road, they are more of a liability than a convenience. Are LR4 drivers statistically shorter than your average Land Rover owner here in North America?
