Introduction from another tragic

Hi all I would this to introduce myself to this group. I have looked on for sometime yet never joined in on any posts.
I have a 99 fg637 with 40,000ks on it 16inch rims off Alan and 295/75r16s interco 1800 kg rated, front springs are rebent with the two bottom leafs bent reverse to improve ride.
The truck is a tipper and used daily on our property as well as trips towing a camper and jet ski on the tray.
My build will be different to others as the truck is used 7 days a week as you can by the tyre size being the same rolling diameter as 8.25 truck tyres on splits makes emergency spares easy.

Thanks for the welcome could anybody tell me if the SSA suspension upgrade works on a truck that runs 90 percent of the time unloaded. My other option would be to add one extra leaf and leave the two bottom leaves inverted while fitting new bump stops with the added mod of fox shocks in a taller top mount.
Went away last week surfing and fishing the wife tells me she is never going in that god forsaken bouncing box again. Fitting a suspension seat for her tomorrow .

Welcome to the club, my wife told me the same thing. What seat are you fitting?

Jeep owner once told his wife. "Thats what sports bras were made for" LOL he hasn't driven the jeep in a decade it sits under a pile of parts and dust in the garage. I don't advise taking his approach. Ha

A mate of mine gave me a stratos passenger side seat and I am doing a nip and tuck with the mig on a Suspension base from a Isuzu npr measures out at only raising 12mm higher the the standard bench, I will then buy a drivers stratos to match build a centre consol and not take out a mortgage to make the cab half pleasant .

I am currently doing the internal fit out of my truck (yes Skifreak I will post some piccies soon). When the build is finished I plan to try and optimise the ride once the all up weight is complete. I was planning to go with the ATW parabolics but now find out that they are not keen to do anymore of the earlier Isuzu NPS. Mine is 2007 and then Isuzu changed to straight chassis rails and apparently longer springs. ATW say it is too hard to mod my truck and prefer not to do it.

Can you explain your statement "front springs are rebent with the two bottom leafs bent reverse to improve ride"". I do not follow -sorry to be dumb.

I have added Firestone airbags to the front and it makes a big difference. I also put in the cab air adjuster so I can tune it a bit. My plan is to try this out once fully laden and see if the QC manager in the passenger seat finds it acceptable. I will also have to reset the rear springs, hope to put in more curve to give ~2"lift but also soften by taking out a leaf. I expect to be ~riding at just on 80% of the 6000Kg GVM with everything full and loaded. The balance is about even according to my spreadsheet so F/R are both about 80%.

I would welcome any comments re options as the suspension is going to become a focus soon.

sorry to butt into your thread and welcome to the forum as a contributor and builder

cheers

After fitting the rims I had the wheel alignment checked and had the two bottom leafs bent the other way my stupid theory was that driving around on normal unloaded country roads the truck would ride on three leafs till it was loaded when the other two leafs take up. It made the truck ride a lot smother yet introduced more bounce on concrete expressways while towing a camper like a see saw.

What air pressures are you running in the tires?

Unless your running the truck at its maximum GVWR there's no need to run the tires at their maximum air pressures. Try reducing them down to 45psi in the rear and 55psi in the front.

60 psi as I don't want to scrub out edges

I only run that sort of pressure when I'm fully loaded. Lightly loaded 40 in the front so I don't scrub out the edges, 35 in rear with not much load up to 60/65 in the rear depending on load. And then change front if needed. Real good ride with lower pressure. If you read my threads you will see what I have done with my springs and I believe I have a really good ride and yes my Wife would not ride in it if it was no good as she has a bad back.

Thanks I will take the pressure down 5 at a time. With the suspension I will fit some timbren springs and put spacers in to allow them to touch, that may take out the bounce it's all an experiment as all of us the trucks for individual needs.

It's sort of like the old line,"You can buy them books and send them to school and what do they do, eat the covers off of the books". The neighbor kid showed up in his F350 crew cab, 4X4 in Utah. Long bed with nothing in it and complained about how it was riding. "Um, how much air in the tires?" Filled to the max shown on the sidewall. I handed him my AP guage and told him to drop them to about 1/2 of what he was running. "Oh, much better".
