Iphone 5 Big Problem with Maps

I'm not quite sure how true this is with the 4s, but a delivery driver showed up at my work yesturday thinking this was the place he needed to be. He started to ask where to unload, so I told him he was in the wrong location. He then showed me that the GPS on his Iphone had brought him here. I told him the location doesn't exist in this area, and looked it up on google maps for him. Sure enough he was about 32mi in the wrong direction. Then this morning I open up this thread and see this,...Hmm. You might be on to something here!

yup pretty much a massive apple map fail, google maps app should be available soon if it isnt already. entire cities are miss placed on there maps.

Apparently a very large school from approx 10 kilometers away has moved next door to us which was a bit of a surprise considering its a main road. Thanks Apple maps

My iPhone 4S (work phone) has been updated. So far I like the new maps. I guess the biggest thing is navigation is A LOT better. Before it was some crappy crap but now it has a GPS-look. Its nice that I can actually use my work phone when I travel.

Still I'd rather it be the google maps like what is on my personal android phone but what apple has is 538973094856230573985430x better than that old crap they had.

My Garmin did this to me many times when I relied on it for work. Yes, Apple screwed up but lets not make this out to be something it isn't ...like an Apple catastrophe.

I've been using Apple's Maps program on my iPad for a while. I have not seen any problems with images or maps in the San Francisco Bay area. But you might expect the program to have been thoroughly tested near Apple's corporate headquarters.

I'm in mid trust of a 5000 mile jaunt and apple maps is working fine. Currently in Northern California and everything is where it needs to be.

One complaint though, with google and apple maps, why put a blue location dot on a blue route line?

Common sense isn't so common.

I have the 4s, but got the update. Seems to work fine for me. I too like the new navigation over the old google one. Especially the fact I don't have to press anything for it to go to the next turn.

Cheers,
Josh

I like the new nav portion of the maps and it worked flawlessly for me this past weekend. I didn't trust bit after all the bad press it got so I used it with my factory vehicle nav running at the same time and it would update way faster when I went off route. But it is definitely missing businesses and some parks that Google has that a friends non updated phone showed.

I have to say Maps was a big let down for me. I ask for stuff like where's the closest Wendy's and it shows half of them around me. I asked for the closest Ace Hardware Store it took me to their shipping hub. Google maps did that stuff ten times better. I expect Apple to get it right and wouldn't even consider anything but an iPhone. It might take some time though, and I think they should have made the new maps better prior to the release.
However it's not the only disappointment in iOS6. Passbook, works great with the companies that are using it. However, when it was released there was only a few businesses working with it. Now only a handful. They should have done a 1/4 of the leg work with Passbook that Steve Jobs did to startup iTunes, and had twice the current companies at least on day 1. It's potential is great but if it doesn't pick up the pace it'll be Tim Cooks mobile me.

I still have ios5 on my 4s. I'm pushing off the i5 until I see this worked out.
Why? You can still run GoogleMaps through Safari. Works fine. In fact, my iOS6 equipped 4s periodically prompts me to do exactly that. I assume that's a result of Tim's apology.

As for use, I think ios6 is actually faster on my 4s than ios5 was. Certainly texting and Safari are much faster.

With ios6 maps, I haven't noted any inaccuracies, but as hilldweller noted, it's missing tons of stuff in its database. For destinations other than "fastest way home", I pretty much have to use the mobile browser version of GoogleMaps, which works fine.
