Here is a mainstream article indicating that Q4 results for Apple will have a significant uptick in iPhone sales over last years Q4 reuslts
http://9to5mac.com/2015/10/22/iphone-sales-predictions/

Fortune puts the average estimate from analysts at 48.72 million iPhone units sold, up from 39.72 million units actually sold last year during the same quarter which notably didn't include China at launch. That also aligns with KGI's similar forecast of 48.5 million iPhones sold last quarter as we reported earlier this morning.

At the low-end, Sundeep Bajikar of Jefferies predicts 45 million iPhones sold; Sherri Scribner of Deutsche Bank forecasting 51.10 million units sold at the high-end.

Key words - "which notably didn't include China at launch"

As most analyst note, flat or slightly down is a "disaster" for Apple. OK, I guess linear extrapolation is still a problem......

I still think global economic trajectory, move away from subsidized model and cheap phones will impact high end phone volumes.

I think that benchmark has already occurred. Here is an interesting, and pretty convincing video showing comparison shots between a decent camera (Nikon D750s with Tamron 24-70mm F2.8 lens), and the iPhone 6S: https://fstoppers.com/originals/iphone-6s-takes-better-video-my-professional-nikon-dslr-88627

He even said the IPhony 6s is utter crap for stills. THAT is what I am talking about. STILL photos, and actually living images as well. The Nokia 1020 destroys the iPhone 6s and keeps pace with entry level dslrs even when the light dims. Videos, I have no use for those anyways.

Regarding the DSLR vs. phone still photos: The original statement was about comparing a D800 to a phone. Most D800 owners, myself included, will be using Nikon Pro lenses not Tamron. There is a difference. I have crops blown up to 24x36 out of my D800e and Nikon 35-70 f2.8. It is the combination and versatility that makes the DSLR superior. Also being able to use a good tripod to stabilize the camera is paramount. I do take more snapshots with my phone now and they are much improved over the years but for anything serious the big guy comes out. For most folks the phone is more than adequate and even desirable but if you are getting critical then the dedicated camera with changeable lens wins out.

Good thing about the 1020 is that using the camera grip, I have a tripod mount. Having a 41mp sensor that is no slouch in a phone camera (I know MP is not everything, but in this case, the 41mp sensor in the 1020 is better optically than anything in a phone. Add in 3x optical zoom, OIS, the battery grip, RAW support (for those who like that), and relative small size of the phone. Its great for just bombing around places, get the best photos available from ANY phone, outdo most p&s cameras and on par with some entry level DSLRS.

The image quality from the 1020 is AMAZING. No it will not beat a dslr with a 2000 dollar piece of glass. It will be on par with entry level DSLRS with entry level lenses.

Totally agree that the phones have made tremendous strides in imaging (and other functions). Five years ago I would have never believed they would be where they are today and it's only going to get better until they price themselves above acceptable levels and people say it's good enough, I don't need that expensive a phone to take snapshots and selfies. Of course there will always be the crowd that has to have the latest and greatest.

Yes, a 1mp camera is enough for the selfie Generation. A lot of times, I only have my phone with me, so I get amazing photographs that are actually useable for prints etch out of my 1020. It negates the need to carry around other camera gear for general out and about' ness. The photos are THAT GOOD. Like I said, my son has the iPhone 6, the photos from it are pathetic. Grainy, soft, not in focus, flat looking. Compared to my Nokia which gives me clear, sharp, vivid photos. Drop some light and its laughable. The iPhone does not focus, cannot expose correctly etc. Whereas the 1020 fast focuses, and gives correct exposure even in dark concert and sporting events.
