that make me love my Land Rover even more. Here in central NC we got a dusting of snow last night, enough to stay on the roads. Its 29* out right now, raining and everything is solid black ice. Saw several cars in the ditch on the way to work, numerous 2wd pickups struggling up the slightest inclines and one truck upside down (Police/EMS on the scene) in the ditch. The road in the pic is ice, not just wet.

The T/C never even came on in the Disco :smiley_drive:

Do you have some sort of 2wd conversion or something? Im pretty sure that its always on.

My MKV Jetta can handle that stuff no problem. The reason people wreck with such a light amount is because they lose their minds when the slightest bit of precip comes down.

My bad, T/C never went active, it's early...cut me some slack :coffee:

Agreed on the people freaking out thing for sure, if everyone would just slow down and leave a little more space between cars they'd be fine.

I'm in Goldsboro and we got the same dusting. The ice and slush is only is sparse patches though, which is actually more dangerous b/c you're never sure when you're gonna hit it.

Hi-jack: I'm from upstate SC and just moved here for work for a cpl years. Are there any good trails around? Thanks!

If you think that's bad weather for driving! i'm in Tewkesbury, close to Quebec city. It's a small country town hidden in the mountains. That means icy roads and ******** lotsa snow. They don't really use salt around here because of deers. So I equip my 110 with Nokian studded tires. The good thing is that for once I'm the fastest car around! When I pull up at lights it seems like a rocket in comparason to other "normal" car! Damn I love this season!:wings:

I know, Im just giving you ****e. Living outside of DC, we are supposed to get 1" or 2" starting in a few hours and Im expecting bedlam. Combine DC and MD drivers on the same road and youve got the recipe for uncountable accidents. I cant wait...

Seems that its usually the missing AWStopping, not AWD that gets folks in trouble around here.

Icy over the weekend...another inch of snow last night...geez, it's almost like Winter ;)

Yeah, my MkV GTi gets around well enough too. But I'd rather get hit in the old Disco...like I'll notice another dent...

I have to say that in my experience, traction for acceleration is pretty good with this tire/truck combination. The downside of it is weight. It might pull up fast at lights but watch it do an emergency stop... :Wow1: Four wheel drive will only get you further in the ditch...

Snowed here in Greenville (NC) as well-now the rain/sleat is starting. I thought about getting out the IIa but I don't want so idiot hitting me so it's safe in the garage and the DI is beside the house because the interior is apart. I am loving the new A/T's I put on the 4Runner.

I'm supposed to ring the salvation army bell today at 2-don't know if that will happen or not but I'll be there.

WJ- trails in ENC are sparse. There are some logging/fire roads in the Alligator swamp area near Columbia NC and there is the outer banks but the bulk of the land is private or posted. URE is the best bet and not too far away from you. There is a DII owner in Goldsboro that is on here (JGDisco2) and he and I are on the lookout for trails. What part of the upstate? I used to to live in Simpsonville and work in Greenville. I was there for 10 years and loved the area.

Nice! Well, I'll join in on the pursuit of good trails then. I'm from Travelers Rest and very familiar with the rest of the upstate SC/Western NC area. I just graduated from Clemson in May and I'll be here working on the new power plant for Progress for two years. I've only been in town for about three weeks now. I've wheeled w/ Eventhough a few times back home and I've been to the FSJ Invasion at URE before. If we find anything good, I'm sure Eventhough would also be willing to join. My favorite is exploring new trails though and getting into backwoods places; old fire-roads, logging roads, and such. Off the beaten path.

Also, I'll wheel w/ anyone looking for a good time. I used to be the token Jeep in the Cruiser club back home.

jgdisco2 - I'm sure I'll see you around town!

As Wander said the Alligator River is really cool place to check out, its not so much hardcore wheeling as it is unimproved roads etc

These pictures are from there
