Jack's 2007 Chevy Build

I went through 3 aluminum driveshafts, then had a steel shaft made and it's been fine for 3 years now. Once I swap to one tons I'm going to a two-piece ford shaft however to get a little more driveshaft coverage from the rocks.

I have not. Mine is still "clunk" free. I wonder if my having an extra leaf (3500 springs) has any impact on that? Speaking of which, it's time for new spring rub pads, some of mine have worn out and are gone, so I am getting some spring "slap." And of course removing and working on heavy leaf springs is a whole lot of fun...:wings: By the way, just went over 142k miles and it is the original driveshaft. How many miles are on yours again? Also, mine is a one piece steel shaft, not sure how yours is set up being a crewcab.

Jack, I put a set of these on my truck to get rid of the overload slap. http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detail/SPP0/21080.oap?ck=Search_21080_-1_2797&keyword=21080

They worked well, and lasted about two years. SPC was sending them out with catalogs a while ago, because they couldn't figure out how to sell them. Call their customer service line and ask if they still are. If so, request a catalog and you get a set for free. :)

MA sells a similar product that's just a huge o-ring and not really shaped to fit the spring, but I've heard they also work.
I'm about to head to the junkyard and scout for some decent rear springs. Time to ditch the air bags. :)

BTW, my CCSB has a 1pc aluminum driveshaft. No clunk, original U-joints still tight and not squeaking. 220k miles and counting... :)

I've never seen those before. I'll have to see if I can locate any. I have a complete set of take offs from a 2008 3500 dually, but I don't want to use those as each leaf is 1-2 millimeter thicker than my current springs and I think they would be way too stiff. I did check with GM parts to see what a set of replacement rear springs for a 2007 SRW 3500 and the price wasn't too bad, but the shipping was a little steep, so it was going to be over $1k for both springs. Not horrible, but not fully necessary just yet.

Yes they do. I had them on my old GMC for about 5 years no issues.

Did a quick run down to Death Valley for President's Weekend with my in-laws. The flowers were great.

And this is why a Tacoma won't work...had to bring the in-law quarters.

We did a little backroad stuff, but the trailer stayed at Stovepipe Wells.

Had a great time and the weather was perfect.

Hey Jack some beautiful :Wow1:looking pics from your outing. Looks like you had fun. 1stDuece its a good idea to get rid of the airbags. Heavy duty springs are always way better...:)

I'm feeling too lazy to go through all of the pages of the build thread: is your front bumper ARB? Buckstop?

We had a great time and it was great for my FIL as he has not been feeling well and this trip re-invigorated him, so yeah, it was a total win.

Buckstop

Pretty hard to dismiss the capability of modern heavy-duty pickups...capable of hauling a camper and pulling a travel trailer! :)

Exactly, and there were four adults and two dogs in the cab of the truck as well.

Perhaps our Baja trip will "re-invigorate" us too... Or perhaps we'll just want to forsake our "normal" lives and stay in Baja... :costumed-smiley-007

You're proving exactly why replacing my truck with a diesel Colorado is never going to work... If anything, I need to convert mine to a longbox/flatbed... When you need a big truck, you need a BIG truck. :)

Just updated my thread with rear spring build details. Did pretty much what you did. Looks like it's going to work out well!
Thanks for the inspiration!

Good luck and safe travels!!

I know what you mean about a full size. Nothing beats a full-size truck when you need a truck.

Just spent some time reading this start to finish. Great truck and great write ups! I'm looking forward to seeing more.
