I spy a 70s-era K series or C series truck

Nice metal work! It's fun watching your progress. I'm planning a bumper build and your thread is helping me out!

Thats a 1971 custom K30 my dad and i are restoring. It has a GM perfomance 454HO, rebuilt SM465, twin sticked NP205, 14 bolt full float we just got done rebuilding with 4.10 gears and disk brakes, dana 60 front that we still need to go through, cross over steering, hydroboost breaks. Suspension is 6" front Alcan springs, and 5" blocks in the rear that we still need to change. the bed was removed and the underside was ground to metal and coated with POR15 and got all new bolts and the frame was stripped to bear metal and all rivets removed and replaced with grade 8 bolts and coated with POR15. The underside of the cab was stripped and coated as well. The interior was stripped and a layer of hush mat was layed down. New seat was apolstered as well as tge headliner to match. Needs a carpet kit, AC lines made, origional stereo and speakers, and door panels painted. We bought it painted black and the previous owner did a super crappy job of re installing the trim. Its come a long ways and its been a fun project! We are most likely going to do an LS swap of some sorts as well as add a gear venders over drive.

That is a drool worthy truck  Beautiful! Last question because I know this thread is about your sweet K5...What size tires/rims are you running on that K30? Looks like the perfect combo to me. I also love that you don't have the beauty rings and caps. Looks all business with just the rally wheels.

Thank you!! my dad and I have a lot of hours into this truck! and its the factory steel wheels, i believe 16x8? the tires are the BFG all terrains in 315/75r16 flavor i believe... i may be wrong. the only issue is that only the center of the tires are wearing and they are under inflated... i think its because the wheels are so narrow. i found a company a while back that makes clones of these steelies in 17x9 or 10. if i can find them again i may go with those. especially since i wanna go up to 37's

Thanks! IDK if any of you are on instagram but the Official BFG account posted this picture on their page!

unfortunately the paint job is junk. i believe due to poor prep. its bubbling in some places so looks like it will be getting a paintjob eventually!

sorry for the late reply. school sucks and is the reason why i have no fun :(

anyways... it was really freaking easy. and It was the first time i have ever done something like that. i definitely recommend it to everyone. only thing i would change is go with a 4l80e and dont look back. yeah the 4l60e is shorter, has a lower 1st gear, and sucks less power but the 4l80e is beef!

Hot dang.

I can't believe you can tow that trailer with that thing!

I've always loved a good K5 (had 2 myself) just a short wheelbase for something that long.

I just towed it through the trail, the furd that towed it to the mountain couldn't get it to the camping spot, the k5 on the other hand kicked some butt! you couldn't pay me enough to drive that trailer down the road, it was sketchy enough on the trail!

finished up the jerrycan side

and that is that!! so far its held up much much better. that bin weighs about 45lbs with my fluids, recovery gear, and jumper cables, tools and such. it doesnt move when i try to shake it. i can see through my rear window. i have twice as many cans and its all easier to get to.

Moved my license plate over and added a light. Also found out my 6 gallon water jug will fit on my jerry can rack! Also the jerry can rack can hold anything like firewood or a cooler if I don't need the Jerry cans

Gunna try and pull the tcase this week and reseal it and pray to god there is no cracking in the adapter. After that it's new rear shackles and time to fab a crossmember to support the tcase
