pretty big update. did a wheeling trip with a bunch of squarebodies and 2 jeeps up through big bear. had a blast and pushed my truck farther than before.

a pic of the crew

taking the k5 down the trail

had a blast. never thought i would be able to go up some of the things that i did. tire size was a big limiting factor though especially after airing down they only measured out to 32". but luckily i was able to use my bumpers and rock sliders to slide up and over most of the obsticles!

also had a minor electrical issue on the trip. On the trail the first night at 1:30 AM almost to the camp spot smoke start billowing from under the hood and under the dash. luckily my buddy disconnected the battery quick before more could be ruined. ended up cutting out the harness under the dash so no gauges, brake lights, turn signals, or headlights for the whole trip. still wheeled and had a blast though!! what had happened was that some wires for the trailer brake controller were not properly connected by the previous shop and shorted athe wire for the break switch and melted the fuse.

I also built this crossmember to support the transfercase

Beautiful build. do you sleep in the back area, or take a tent with you when your out wheeling to camp spots?

making me feel very tempted to sell my silverado for a blazer..

Thanks! Yeah the first night I slept in the back seat. It was 2:30 am and I was tired lol slept like a baby. Second night I blew up an air matress and laid It over the top of all my crap in the back and slept there.

Sick Blazer build...but those K30s on the trail tho

Yeah those k30'S kicked butt. My k5 and the other k5 were the only gassers and we both have ls swaps. All the other trucks were diesels. The light colored suburban had a 6.2 diesel with the banks turbo kit, the camo ish suburban had an H code 6.2, the crewcab had a stock j code 6.2, the other k30 with the box had a 6.2 with a 6.5 turbo, the 3rd k30 had a turbo 6bt cimmins. All of them were super ************. It was funny taking these full sized rugs up jeep trails. It was funny to see the look ok the $100,000 jeep owners face when we all walked up the obsticle he had trouble on

Awsome pics. So much so if there are more load them up. I never can see enough square bodies wheeling. Almost should be a square body sticky so we can consolidate the drool. Great rig, love your build.

I'll see what I can dig up!
How easy was the LS swap? any thing you'd do different?

Easier than I had expected. To be honest I had no idea what I was doing when I started. When I do it again I'll go pull the motor from a junkyard or craigslist, clean it up do a cam and a head job then modify the wiring harness myself. I'll also use a 4l80e instead of a 60e. I'd also get a 6.0 instead of a 5.3. At the time the truck was my DD so I cared about mpg. I drive a Nissan leaf now so it's all about POWER!!

Wow things have changed over than last 3 years... K5 went full retard with front end conversion, new paint job, coilovers, Dana 60, 5.38 gears and lockers, only to cut it all off! New plan is a custom chassis with long travel IFS 4x4 up front. Along with a 408 stroker LSX. Obviously it's getting away from the whole expedition rig, do I'm building a new rig for that.
