James Baroud Tent modifications?

Before buying I thought the fan would provide some form of circulation but was sadly disappointed. Still have had condensation in the tent each night I have used it, which has been in relatively cool weather. Just curious if anyone has modified the tent fan for more flow? Also I didn't really consider the fact that rain will go right in the tent mesh due to no overhang of the top. Has anyone done something about this?

The fan doesn't eliminate condensation but it sure reduces it compared to no fan. Considering the fan unit is a built-in jobby I don't think there's much you can do in terms of modification unless you're thinking of replacing the entire unit with a different kind.
If you come up with some kind of overhand solution please do let us know. Been trying to think of something for ages.

The fan is incorporated into the design to help reduce condensation, but with the windows sealed it may not be very effective. We do offer comfort / condensation mats for the tents for customers who the fan is not sufficient. http://www.jamesbaroudusa.com/shop/accessories/comfort-pad/

I agree the switch behind the blade is a little silly, however this is not our design as these fans are primarily produced for the marine industry. This layout allows one hole to be made into the tent and has proven to be a reliable self contained unit. If upgrading the fan unit, take into consideration the added weight of that unit as the fiberglass may not be engineered for that load on say a washboard road.

Well of course leaving the windows open will also reduce the condensation which is what I have done except for the one night when it was raining and had to close them so the rain would stop coming in. I think the main problem with the fan is the way the ventilation is set up. It seems to restrict flow greatly. Not sure if ill get another small fan or if I should try modify at this point. Going to look at it tomorrow.

Make sure you have the right fan blade in to "exhaust" and not pull in air. I made that mistake at first. I've noticed if it's just me, the fan is very effective. If it's two of us, it's not as affective but much better than no fan at all.

I also agree that the way the off/on switch is located under the fan blades is silly. If you could fit a higher capacity fan in that location i think it would be a huge improvement. I'm all ears!

Condensation mats

Hi Rin,
I'm thinking about ordering an anti-condensation mat from you for my Space. Can you provide some details? How thick are they? Can you provide any pictures that are better then the Baroud site?

There isn't much info on the interwebs.

I have started using one of these UCO candle lanterns in the tent and have found it greatly helps with condensation. Side benefits, may provide one extra degree of warmth and a nice glow instead of led lights getting settled into bed.

I hang it from one of the loops on the roof that the netting attaches to and cover one side with some foil so it doesn't shine at us when sleeping. Also leave a window cracked in the corners.

Those are cool candle lanterns, I have one with the reflector and storage bag from when I use to backpack in 80s to mid 90s.
