Jeep JK Unlimited

I have an 09 JK 2 DR Rubi and from my experience with back country exploring it's the smallest things that matter the most. For example, there is NO shock to the rear tailgate, the minute you open it it slams shut. Very annoying. That is the first thing I would get fixed. Second, if your with a group , you should invest in a fixed mounted CB radio antena/ cb. And finally, shelf/storage type of system for the rear cargo area.

:sombrero:That SWAG shock/strut is very strong and doesn't use any sheetmetal screws-all thru bolts-

sweet. i have a soft top and really wish i could find a way to do away with that bar that u have to duck under to put ur crap in. it would make the tailgate much more useful

The nice thing about the JK is you can easily modify just about everything. We converted the wifes mall crawler to a decent expedition vehicle with the addition of a lift, larger wheels/tires, Gobi rack, S-Pod switch panel, winch, LED light bars, rock lights, and an off-road trailer. A lot of other mods like heated seats, Superchip, front/rear DVD, and the tailgate lift mentioned above were previously done to make things easier for the wife. I've had many Toyotas and Land Rovers in the past, but this is the best I've had yet only complaint is that it needs more power, but that's coming to the line next year.

One more thing...these automatics need a tranny cooler. I installed a B&M after my first roading trip.

...I plan on doing more expedition/camping trips moving forward.. So hence a four door. The 04-06 LJ I still think is one of the best Wrangler platforms out there today. But access inside and storage with a Jk Wrangler 4dr is an upgrade that I felt as an older gentlemen would fit my outdoor camping activities better. IMHO, A+ for both units.. lol, Wished, I could afford both.

Reminds me of my thoughts!

I am looking forward to the 2012 JK-U.

Not sure when I will buy, but I've been thinking about a JK for well over a year now.

Last year we did a three week camping trip in our JK and it did a great job with the stock
Suspension and some
Extras I added. Since then though I have upgraded to an AEV 3.5"
Lift and 35s. I have to agree with others that it needs regard. Check out my sig for my build.

I am currently waiting on my wife to get home and we are going to go pick up a JK Sahara Unlimited. My plans right from the get go will include: Shocks, Brakes and Tires.

Shocks will be either Old Man Emu, Bilstein.
Brakes will most likely be Hawk HPS pads from The Tire Rack
Tires will most likely be Firestone Destination AT.

These three items, I believe are critical before anything else. I would probably do all of this in one weekend. Eventually I plan to add more weight to the truck; bumpers, roof rack, etc so shocks, brakes and tires are critical. I had Firestone Destination AT's on my Isuzu Trooper and was very happy with them in all conditions, rain, mud, snow and sand.

Hopefully within 2 years we can make a 15+ day adventure out west in our JK.
