Jeep/Land Rover 109 hybrid

Well the simple answer to that is.... It's just what I had at the time. I built a Dana 300 years ago and had a heck of a time finding one at that time, so I just went with the rover case that came in the truck. I was surprised to see when I was rebuilding it that it's actually quite beefy inside. Time will tell I guess if that was a good choice or not. Honestly, I have no intention of hard-core wheeling it. My plan was just to make a nice retro camping / exploring rig out of it.

With the steering box mounted inboard of the frame rails it doesn't look like there is a ton of room there for your radiator. What is your plan for that? Is it going on top of the front crossmember?

There won't be any Lucas stuff left just the Jeep Cherokee engine harness up front. I'll re-wire the rest of it with a Rebel Wire kit. I've used them in the past with good results..... Might keep the stock gauges though.

I'm not sure yet on the radiator, but it is going up onto the crossmember. A 2.5L Cherokee or Wrangler radiator does fit into the spot nicely but I'm not sure how well it'll cool.

Ultimately, if I don't like the ride of the super short front stock springs I'll just coil the front. I figured I'd give them a go and see if it's live able.

Great thread...

Perfect power and tranny combo for the 109...
Good choice keeping the series box.. It's damn strong...

Wanted to put a 4L in my 109 when I rebuilt it, but kept it rover..

Had a dream of a 4l, t18 trans and dana 18 tcase... W/overdrive.

I know I'm moving like pond water on this build but I don't get the oppertunity to work on it as much as I'd like too.
So, I've done some sanding and smoothed out all of the interior bits and gave it a coat of raptor liner. I tinted a mint green, because it just felt right. 😊

I Dextered off the corner of the garage and went to town.

I gave it a few days and started putting stuff back together.

I put the seat box back in and was surprised that it only needed a small bit of trimming to fit over the AX15.

It's actually starting to look like a Rover again!

Picked up the wheels from the powdercoater too!
