Jeep "MyGig" Audio Unit Questions

When I bought my new Rubicon, I could only get one with the "MyGig" 'entertainment' center. I was told by the salesman that I could load music files from iTunes or my iPod into the MyGig hard drive. Turns out I CAN'T!!

First, the unit only reads a memory stick as input via the USB port.

Second, the unit will not even load - much less play - MP-4 files (iTunes and iPod file type.)

Anyone know of any workaround? I'd sure hate to have to insert 100 or more CDs into the unit manually, and wait for them to load one by one!!

Also, both the bluetooth cell phone connection and the voice command recognition functions are disabled. Any work around for this?

Many thanks, John

As far as I know, MyGig will not recognize any DRM songs purchased from iTunes unless you buy the iPod adapter cable and run them directly from the iPod. You will probably need to convert the files to a non-DRM format (mp3).

For the bluetooth and voice command, it may be that you just don't have the optional microphone installed. But it also might be that it has been blocked. If it's been blocked, look at something like this: http://www.coastaletech.com/mygig.htm or search Google for mygig lockpick.

I'm not sure of the music work around either. I don't have a new enough Jeep to have that radio. But there is a Jeep part number that is supposed to add all the parts needed for the U-Connect. "82211004AB" I think is the number. I tried to do the same thing on a Sebring no to long ago and at the time there was no kit available the guys in Detroit told me. "But there will be one out soon." The thing is the Nav radio has the module built in it, whereas the pther radios have a seperate module to add. So mostly the kit is the mic, a few cables and the instructions I'm sure.
The only way to be sure is to talk to the techs at the dealership about calling "Star Center" and verifying that this is the correct part number for your application. I know most people don't wanna go to the dealer much, but this is one of those things that a regular Joe can't do at home. The functions are already in the radio, just been deactivated through software by Chrysler and a dealer tech must update the software of the vehicle to allow the radio to use the new functions.
It's a hassle and I haven't done it yet, but it really should work once the hard parts are there.
The Lockpick deal looks cool, but I haven't seen one in action and it may actually be cheaper than the dealership. But I don't think there is any kind of warranty with it so I don't know.

Oh yeah, Im a Chrysler/Jeep tech, I do this stuff all the time.

I know you can add the U connect unit. They were deleted from the Wranglers do to poor performance (road noise).

I have the MiGig too, but am considering going to single din + the 2M. I need to minimize bulk as much as possible.

The stereo is actually really good in the JK with the MiGig and the bass unit.

Having converted the MyGAG on my JK Rubi, I can affirm that Pete is giving you accurate information. The best thing to do is add the Lockpick, Mic and Backup Cam then get used to it's quirkiness.

Well the trick is getting the kit for the MyGig radio. A month ago it was a new kit that wasn't available from parts. The MyGig radio has a different configuration than pretty much the rest of the current radios. True, it is deactivated because of noise levels of the Wrangler. Due to demand Mopar is making the kit, but it still needs to be activated through software updates.
