Jeep pickup is for reals

The one with the ugly bed is a test mule. I have heard it will have a lot in common with the 4 door Brute. I have also heard there will be a 2 door.

I don't really need a pickup. I love my Jk Umlimited but the back of my Jeep is nasty from wet wetsuits and smelly mountain bike and fishing equipment and dinged up from hauling small loads of rocks and firewood. A pickup bed would just work better for me, especially if it was a little bigger than the current cargo area. I also am planning to buy and trailer a small boat so 5000lbs. towing would be nice. A Tacoma, Colorado, it Ranger would work for me but I like taking the top off and my kids love driving in the Jeep.

I'll be looking for a new vehicle right about when they come out, but I fear they will be fully loaded top dollar rigs, just a first. I'm looking for hand cranked windows, manual locks, etc.

My thought is that it will look very similar to that and have a step or storage compartment right behind the back door to fill that gap (and allow using the same doors on the 4 door JL and JT). The mule certainly has the same proportions.

I think this sums it up well. Will it be for everyone? Of course not. But I can certainly see how it will hold some appeal to several different segments. As long as your wheeling trips are not into super tight places, the extra length of the JP (truck?) shouldn't be a big deal. A modest build, and you now have something to play in, that can haul your trailer camping or haul a modest load (5k sounds reasonable and decent) while still being useful and something you can wheel and have fun with on the weekend.

This has me holding off to see what develops... may be my first ever bought new vehicle. I can see the application in my life for sure, but as has been said, I hopwe they will offer in a basic version. Well, a basic but burly version, like a Rubicon with all dirvetrain upgrades, but basic ammenities.

Exactly. People who buy the Rubicon package for the capability are going to muck up the inside, so why make you buy leather and power everything? I'll take the hose to my bare metal floorboards and unzip my windows, thank you very much.

Here's also hoping it will be small. Brutes are cool, but I have pinstripes on my Jeep from my driveway, and it's only 5 feet wide. The new Colorados and Tacomas are bigger than my buddy's first gen tundra. I miss the days of standard cab short bed bench seat rubber floor trucks, and I miss the old Rangers and 80s Toyota pickup sized mini trucks. Something like a TJ brute though....now we're talkin.

I could live without the power everything, but really like the leather - and in fact paid extra for it. Why? Because it's super easy to clean when you get mud on it, or to dry it off when the top is down and it rains.

You could always do Katzkins, and get a nice quality leather. Even add butt heaters if you want them on an accessory relay that turns on with the key. This way they'd be nice and toasty if you got Remote Start. :)

Guess I'm spoiled with my vynil seats. Same easy cleanup, super cheap. Sometimes I wish I had remote start and heated seats (or a working heater for that matter) but then I remember nobody can hack my Jeep and I can go swimming with my keys :)

If I'd known that the ************* stock ones wouldn't turn on with the command start I would have done something different. Talk about a huge piss off. It's warmed up to -31 now, and I know that almost regardless of how long the jeep runs for, that seat will be rock hard and cold for 5 minutes after I get into it. Which unfortunately is about how long it takes me to get to work. :(

I still might eventually change that - or see if I can mess around with the wiring and re-wire them in such a way that they'll come on with a different button (that I can then setup to come on on startup). But for now I ***** and live with it. Fortunately the last two winters haven't been 'that' bad.

I've thought about doing the same thing here. Just need to see how high and low setting works, and emulate that through the accessory circuit.
Surprised me that Jeep didn't think of this. The vehicle knows ambient temp, and it already turns on rear defrost with the Auto-Start function. Would have been a few more lines of code to have the butt heaters turn on when temps are low.
Maybe that will come with the JL model. They'll need to come out with some way to improve on quasi-perfection in order to get buyers to upgrade...

I bought the wife a '16 Cherokee limited. The drivers butt heater comes on with remote start, but not the passenger!
